Depends on your goals, S&W does offer quality.$1100 seems a bit high but not rediculous. Is that the actual package? Cuz you need sights still also. And a front swivel for your sling. If you have the cash, I wouldn't be afraid.

Goals? Plinking, varmint hunting, zombie killing... they're a real problem around here. ;)

I know it needs a couple of goodies to go along with it, but was curious what everyone's thoughts were about the idea in general. Where ya think would be the cheapest place for a new one?

I would usually say the 1500, but jacks are hiking up prices these days. Able's has them for $998, but out of stock. Both of the S&W's are about $1100 on gunbroker.com too.

Are you set on a S&W or just an AR? Indygunworks can custom build you one for udner 1K with better accessories and you can customize it to your fit.

Although I feel the S&W line of ARs are good, I not a fan of that particular model. Look for the model that has the standard front sight/gas block.

I also feel the price is a little high, but that is typical pricing for the current market.

Since you are in Martinsville.... check out Bradis up in Camby on SR67. They had alot of ARs in stock earlier in the week, from DPMS, Bushy, SOG and a few S&W including the MagPul MOE model. I dont recall the prices...

I have a S&W M&P15a the one with they front sight post and love it, it came with flip up rear BUIS made by Troy dual ap. Very nice gun. Over 2,000 rds through it and not a hiccup. Everything is tight, NO wobble. Paid 1049.00 for mine in January.

i think its a "decent" price.
the big thing with AR's of today is that there really isnt all that much difference from one brand to another, until resale comes in.
most all of them run with most any ammo. its all in what you like

    i prefer this:

There was one at the fort wayne gun show for ~$1,000.

I like the fixed "iron' sights. personal preference i guess. I have had no issues with this one, but i've put less than 1,000 rounds through it.

I just bought a new S&W M&POR at Bradis on Friday for $926. I do need to put some backup sights on it, but other than that, I love it. I put about 160 rounds through it this weekend without a problem.

Im not a fan of the flat or retractible front sight post idea or the S&W. Its all mil spec but..... not all things are created equal. But it is 1100..... hard to pass up.
