What you will get in the end is a two tiered medical system. Have a lot of cash or a paid for in spades medical insurance policy? There's a place for you with the best of care. Not a part of that group? Wait in line like the limeys do to participate in a marginal system while the managers of that system hope you die before they call your number.

"But you see," the Liberals will say..."we already HAVE a two-tiered system, the Gubmint just wants to make it more fair."

Just wait. They're warming up their keyboards now.

When I express this possibility to some of my liberal acquaintances, and comment on the widespread implications for our quality of life, they shrug and say, "Fine, we can just get doctors from Namibia and India who will do just as professional of a job for much less...global marketplace, baby." So like a smartass I respond, "But wait a minute...wasn't that exactly what you said the Big Greedy Insurance Companies were going to do to us, anyway, eg. send us to Mexico for operations and stuff...so basically you're saying Obamacare accomplishes the same thing, just with Democrats receiving the lobbyist donations, instead?

    No comeback for that.

So, what I learned is, that's really what they want for America: kick your golf-playing country-club fat-cat American doctor to the curb, and exchange him for someone from India, who is willing to work for what the government will pay. Third World health care for all. So our healthcare system comes to look just like England (you know...the place where spouses of Parliament members die on gurneys in hospital hallways and, ahem, "Middle Eastern," ahem, terrorists drive up on the sidewalk and behead soldiers, while batty old women stand there and try to argue with them?).

I have heard that arguement, but if India, Paki, and middle eastern medicine is so good, why do people keep coming here for treatment? Not saying some individual doctors are not good, some may be brilliant, but on a whole a $10/hr dr. is not going to be as good as a $300/hr dr. And Far east hospitals and clinics are no way close to what we have, not that we do not pay for it.

The prediction is that employer sponsored healthcare is gone by 2020, so just a bit over five years. I can see it happening. What we will have will be horrible, actually worse that a true government ran single payer system. The system we will get with be huge on private-public partnerships and play-to-pay politics, which will likely eventually blow up itself. Neither party wants a true government ran system, as it is hard to justify paying a handful of people in all the major cities millions of dollars to run hospital systems. Plus, those rich types dole out campaign bribes/donations, so the more millionaires politicians take out of the system the less high paying jobs for friends and family, fewer campaign contributions, and lower income tax revenue. Once the government finally takes it over, care will take a huge hit. There likely won't be any new drugs formulated in the future, as the US based profit margins won't be there as the cost will be capped as in other counties. Additionally, you will see care rationed as I don't think many people will be wanting to work in the industry if wages end up taking a huge hit and there are no breaks on the cost of obtaining the necessary degrees and education to work in the industry. Things like age, overall health, occupation, past behavior, family status, etc. will factor in on where one falls on any given wait list. If they try to fund the system as it stands now, with everyone running to the ER for piddly stuff, people not working or unable to find work, etc., income taxes would need to increase by at least 10%. Any savings of not paying for healthcare through an insurance plan will be eaten up by the taxation needed to support the current status-quo under a government ran system.

2 years ago they cancelled the HMO plan with my wife, and switched us to some PPO plan which sucked badly.
They claimed they didn't have high enough enrollment in the HMO.
Last year the deductible doubled, and this coming year it will double again. :(

Two years ago, I had insurance that was reasonable. Now, my company used to contribute $500 to my health care savings plan. Not anymore. My deductible went up $1000. My annual contributions went up $1000. All thanks to obamacare.

I know now how I will be voting.

My favourite line, listening to the ACA Defenders, was that anyone who paid more for health insurance was obviously too stupid (paraphrasing naturally) to understand how the subsidies worked

I'm an insurance agent and this thing is an epic failure. Only the poor benefit, as they're the only ones that qualify for large subsidies. Even then, they also have high deductibles, so when they do use their health coverage, they don't pay the bill. That's after Ocare pays doctors up to 60% less.

"Atlas Shrugged" is coming to pass. Everybody gets their fair share.

Yup. One of those newly minted "bronze plans". which means the insurance doesn't kick in until the insured has paid $5000 in deductibles. But if they're poor...they don't HAVE $5000. So the medical system just eats the expense. Just doesn't get paid the first $5000 of each person's care.

They could send to collections, but what would that accomplish other than bad feelings and bad PR? So now hospitals and doctors are eating $5000 in losses for every patient.

Now...if you were a Demorat, you would believe that "well, the greedy doctors and hospitals are SOOOO RICH, they have that kind of money anyways." Then the hospitals start closing and the doctors start going out of business. Which, of course, is PROOF that they're greedy...they'd rather go bankrupt than help people! Because they're SOOOO RICH! Rich people who are bankrupt!

Then your chest hurts, and the hospital says "It will be 2 weeks before you get your cath. Oh, it went away? Ok, 8 weeks! Oh, it's back? Well, you already have an appointment...in 8 weeks. Take your aspirin and think happy thoughts!" Hope you make it!

Oh, you're having some blood in your toilet? Lost 30 lbs in the past month? Ok! You can see your gastroenterologist! Lucky you! Ok...next appointment is in 8 weeks. Lucky you!

Oh, ran out of your meds? Need a doctor to refill? Ok...make an appointment. We have an opening in 3 weeks. Don't have enough meds to last that long? Well, you should have thought of that earlier!

    Welcome to Obamacare, happy citizen!

Seriously...Obama is a man that thinks the role of the government is to control and manipulate its people. And every "good citizen" will subjugate all of their own needs to the "greater good" of the Government, which he sees as being led by himself, the Ubermensch.

Look at this Frieden guy that runs the CDC. After he left his training, all of his accomplishments were in using the government as a blunt instrument to force people into compliance "for their own health". When there was an Ebola threat, all he had to say was basically "well, all the SMART people know Ebola only happens in Africa, you stupid, privileged, red state fly-over country person." And when it came here, well he just said anyone who was worried was stupid. And when it spread, he said it was the stupid nurses fault.

Only real piece of advice I've got:

if you currently have insurance that is taken at all the hospitals and doctors you want to see, and is generally widely accepted, DON'T GIVE IT UP.

If you sign up for an Obamacare plan, change your mind (because you find out you can't see your doctors or hospitals or can't afford it), and try to get your old plan back, you will find out that there is a clause in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare, brought to you by "Pass it to see what's in it" Pelosi) which will FINE ANY INSURANCE COMPANY $15,000 if they try to take you off of an Obamacare plan and put you on another non-Obamacare plan.

Also, you will find that if you have Obamacare, the insurance company will keep telling you "We can't help you with that. We were specifically instructed by the government that we can't make any changes to your plan. You have to go through the Healthcare.gov website to do that. All we do is take your money."

    Oh...one more thing...since I'm already on a late-night rant anyways:

RELATIVE PRiCING: Obama (or rather, whatever mouthpiece he has for his Healthcare stuff, since he is too chicken**** to own up to saying anything himself), has encouraged all insurance companies to practice relative pricing. This is the practice of arbitrarily setting prices for medical procedures and medical care, and refusing to honor past agreements. So, if an insurance company yesterday paid $20,000 for all the care (hospital, doctors fees, rehab, OR time, hardware) related to a knee replacement, today they can say "we're only paying $9,000".

Imagine if someone walked into Best Buy and did that..."Hey, I'm gonna take that 72 inch 3D LED TV. Yeah, I know the sign says $4999. Well, I'm gonna give you $500. Have them load it up in my car out front."

What is happening (and has happened) is that, at best, the patient's care is being delayed. Such as a patient with a cancer waiting another 4 weeks for radiation therapy while his care goes back through the system to get approved. In the meantime, the cancer spreads and now the doctors say they will need to irradiate more of the guy's face and the surgeon says he will need to cut off more of his jaw. Because of the delay.

At worst, the patient will need to find new doctors and hospitals and start over. Because the insurance company that promised to pay for his care, under instructions from the president that promised "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor", all don't wanna own up to their promises.

His lying and incompetence have really screwed us all.

As noted in other topics, I lost my private health policy, which I had held since 1993, due to 0bamacare this year.

Now I have insurance through an employer for the first time since 1991. I thought all was well, but learned this week that our current coverage is gone as of the end of the year due to non-compliance with 0bamacare. We have to enroll in one of the new, 0bamacare-compliant plans during the open enrollment period. I am appreciative that something else is available to me, but losing insurance (that I was supposed to be able to keep) TWICE is ridiculous.

My monthly premiums are going down $8 per month, but the deductible and total out of pocket for the year are going up. It's going to be simply awesome if my doctor won't accept the new coverage.

The wife works at Cook Medical in Bloomington. Same story - rates going up along with deductibles and bene's going down, keeping pace with the increasing costs of O-Care.

Glad they fixed the system. It's awesome.

I like paying more for less and lower quality. And, I enjoy paying more to subsidize the people who never paid anyway than we already paid for them.

It's like a refreshing shower of socialist servitude over and over!

I was referring to Obamacare vs. Romenycare. Both bring us to the position we are in now.

You're funny. Deep changes in health care were coming no matter who is in the white house. Insurance companies have dictated how it's all going to go and they don't care who's name is on it. If you don't believe me then go to your nearest hospital and speak with an administrator.

Never heard of Reagan Care, Bush Care, or G W Care

Only Hillary Care, and Obama Care

Seems those two have a common theme.

The system needed help and needed to be fixed. It was a critical system under severe strain and needed cautious, careful, capable and strong leadership to fix it. What happened was a complete incompetent with no sort of track record of success decided he was the Messiah and he would monkey with it. Now it's screwed...possibly beyond repair.

For you to say "deep changes were coming" makes it sound like it's not his fault that he ignored precedent, ignored reality, failed to study the problem, implemented a failure of a system (good golly...they couldn't even get the WEBSITE right...but Michelle's friend got paid millions to make it!) and tweaked our healthcare system into a degenerative spiral.

It's like Stalin saying "deep changes were coming" to explain why millions starved and millions more were murdered in his collectivization campaign

I have no idea why some people feel the need to absolve this child-king of all responsibility for his actions. It's like they don't believe there is such a thing as incompetence. And failure. And many, many people suffering because of that failure that you made.

Next time I screw up and someone suffers, instead of apologizing, owning up to my failure and trying to make it right, I'll just tell them "deep changes were coming".
