I am buying 10 new mags for a 1911. I am looking at Wilson and Ed Brown mags. I have a mixture of Wilson, cheap gov, Colt, Springfield, and Taurus. I would like to shoot some 3 gun so need good mags for the game. I would like to hear the good and bad for the two brands.
I have a few different manufacturers. With the help of a member here, who trusted me enough to send me one of his, I learned tuning the magazine is more important than a brand. Most of what have been listed use good steel. My Dan Wesson mags (I think are metalform) and my Checkmate mags all work well. Crazy how much a few thousands of bend made.
I switched from Wilson #47 7rnd and Cobra 8rnd to McCormick RPM.
These are very thickly built, and the springs have as much power as they should. Seven years later, the mags are still on their original springs and are running fine.
I will mention I had one mag with an issue, that I couldn't figure out and neither could CMC. Everything was in spec, but it hiccuped a couple times. CMC replaced it for free, and I got to have a couple nice long phone calls with the man himself, Chip. If you ever get the chance to talk to him, I highly recommend it. Very nice, knowledgeable feller.
