    Hello Gentlemen! My name is Aaron Hall, I am a 8 year veteran of the active duty army Infantry and a current member of the Indiana Sons of Liberty and I have noticed several threads on this website that have not shed a lot of light on militia groups in Indiana so I am going to take a few minutes to shed some on the group that I am in. I am not here attempting to recruit anyone! First, when someone says the "Indiana militia" they need to realize that there are literally a dozen militia groups in our state. So please do not think that the actions of one individual in one group is the beliefs of anyone else in any of the other groups. Second several of people have attempted to recruit from this website and not replied to any one questions, why I do not know but I will do my best to reply to any questions that anyone has. Ok here is our mission statement from our basic manual, ISL MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of ISL is to provide information, training, and basic organization to "The People" to ensure a timely and effective response to community emergencies. Next is a brief summery of what we are and are not, The Indiana Sons of Liberty is a common sense militia. The ISL is completely volunteer and has no
    official connection or affiliation with any government agency. Because of how different the ISL is, by
    comparison to other militia groups, the ISL has very little contact and NO operational affiliation with
    any other militias, in or out of the State of Indiana.
    The ISL is a group of Americans that are truly committed to the best interests of their neighbors and
    local community. The People that make up the ISL are all common sense individuals, a mix of prior
    service military, emergency service professionals, law enforcement personnel, and average people
    from all across the State of Indiana. ISL members are dedicated, self-sufficient, highly motivated
    citizens that function together as a team without the aid from any government agency. The members
    of the ISL are prepared to protect and support their community should the need arise.
    If you are an American, if you believe in and support the Constitutions for the United States and the
    great State of Indiana, and you believe in a smaller, less intrusive government, then you are welcome
    in the Indiana Sons of Liberty.
    The ISL…
    • is NOT a terrorist training network;
    • is NOT a neo-Nazi, racist, or skin head organization;
    • is NOT the National Guard or any other form of government agency;
    • is NOT a private army subject to the dictates of any individual, cooperation, or other group;
    • is NOT a religious or political launch pad;
    • is NOT a group of paranoid, conspiracy theorists;
    • is NOT a supporter the United Nations or any form of “one world” or socialist government;
    • IS a supporter of the 5 branches of the U.S. Armed Forces;
    • IS a response mechanism in the event of a disaster
    • IS a communications network.
    We would never steal, trespass on, or harm another individual or their property even in the event of open conflict with an invading force against our state. We believe in taking care of first our family, second our community, and third our state. Currently I am the 72nd BN Commander for the counties of Clark and Scott (Which just means that I am the guy that does all of the work to make stuff happen as we do not consider our rank structure to be formal until such time that it becomes necessary) so please feel free to contact me at patriotcustomoutdoors@mail.com or 315-777-7928 with any questions that you may have or I will do my best to answer them on this forum. Thank you for your time!

    LOL, I did kinda make it seem like a brochure didn't I! Well I didn't mean to sorry, I just got tired of nobody talking openly about what their group does and all of the bad publicity that militias get so I am putting myself out in the open for Q&A.

    Hey Aaron. I have some basic questions that I'm sure will highlight my lack of knowledge regarding militia groups, but here it goes.

    1. Why call yourself a militia group? That specifically implies an armed group and generally implies wilderness compounds, manifestos, and Spam. If the ISL are organized around disaster response/preparedness and not an armed group waiting for TEOTWAWKI, why not call yourselves something like the Citizens Community Emergency Response or something similar?
    2. Why give yourselves military ranks? You're not affiliated with any military organization, so why not just call yourself a director or manager? And if you're handing out ranks, why limit yourself to BN Commander?
    3. In what ways are the ISL prepared to support the community?
    4. What is ISL protecting the community from?
    5. What kind of training does ISL provide?
    6. How many members does ISL have?

    Thanks Aaron and :welcome:

    The bad publicity goes without saying. As the subject has been addressed previously, the militia is everyone (nationalization of the state militias 100 +/- years ago notwithstanding). The leftists in the media and elsewhere doesn't like that, so they demonize anyone who is so organized as to have the foggiest idea what they may do or fashion plans to work together in the event of a societal failure to function. As with any definable group, 'militias' will take in perfectly responsible neighbors as well as groups of people who, well, wouldn't make good neighbors. It is commendable that you would address something of this nature in a direct manner in the knowledge that a lot of assumptions will be made at the reading of the word 'militia'. It is also commendable that you did not introduce yourself with a recruitment drive (which has been done before).

    Welcome. I appreciate what you guys are trying to do, in times like these, I feel we should all be banding together. I like the concept behind what you are doing and would be interested to see what types of training you offer, and how everything is set up. Are there several "chapters" throughout the State, or only one headquarters?

    ZombiePanda thanks for taking the time to read my post I hope these answers help!

    1.Because we are in fact a "militia". We prepare for disaster response/preparedness but we also prepare for open conflict with a armed hostile force.

    2.We have military ranks because we are a paramilitary organization and believe in the structure of the military rank system. The ISL does not give out ranks it promotes individuals based of applicable experience, age, and training. This is not my organization it is a state wide one and I accepted the offer for my BN when the last guy could not do the work for personal reasons.

    3. Stockpiled Resources, Adopt a highway program, free training to the public, we put a team on alert anytime there is inclement weather.

    4.Forign invasion, civil war, looters, we will protect the community from whatever the people ask us to. Will not take it upon ourselves to designate any enemies or threats.

    5. First aid, Land navigation/Map reading, Survival i.e...(tracking, water purification, tool making), tactical communication, advanced marksmanship, Whatever the people in our unit ask to be trained on.

    6.I do not really know how many members there are it is state wide. If I had to guess I would say between 250-500. I know its on our website somewhere but I have never looked. In my BN which is Clark & Scott county there is 40 members only about 15 are really active in it.

    Scutter01, I did not give this rank/position to myself I was asked to by the members. But you are right there is a common theme of ranks in most militias!

    I didn't say you gave yourself your rank, but I have never once met a single militia member who was anything lower than a major, and every one of them was at least a "commander" of some sort. None of them are ever the guys who dig the latrines. You'll forgive me if I'm skeptical of an organization that is so stereotypically top-heavy in its leadership structure.

    Hey Aaron, welcome to the forum. I'd have joined the forum and slowly came out with the whole militia thing, but that's just me.
    A while back someone posted a link to a Discovery Channel show that had a militia from Indiana featured. This morbidly obsese dude was in charge, that ain't ya'll, is it?

    Also, if I lived in Scott County, I'd form a militia to deal with the meth-heads in Austin.

    No I THINK that Discovery Show episode featured the guy who runs Indiana Militia Corps but, I could be wrong.

    He seems to be an improvement from the one guy that said their militia would start pillaging their neighbors for whatever they needed when the SHTF...
