    Northwest Indiana (slacker)
Just got an email about a cheap fare to get into the fair.

Monday, August 16, is BMV Carload Day at the Indiana State Fair. Up to 10 people will be admitted to the fairgrounds for only $15 for the entire group. The family friendly atmosphere, great food and endless activities will make for a special day. To get this special rate, all you have to do is print the coupon at myBMV.com . The coupon is accepted at all drive-in and walk gates. Your friends and neighbors can also take advantage of this special offer, so be sure to forward this email to them.

Again this year, the BMV booth will be located in the Toyota Exposition Hall. Our team members will be on hand to answer your questions and the BMV2You mobile branch is available to renew your driver's license or license plates. We look forward to seeing you at the Indiana State Fair!

    Sincerely,

    Andy Miller, Commissioner
    Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles

It's a helluva deal, but I still don't feel safe going there since carrying isn't legally allowed. Same reason I don't go to Illinois for any reason.

How un-"legally allowed" is carry there?

80-IAC-4-4-4. Penalty is basically forfeiture of your firearm. Since it's a civil violation, there doesn't appear to be a risk of jail time, but they've been given the power to confiscate your gun and will almost certainly eject you from the fairground (and probably attempt to have you charged with trespassing).

IC 15-13 establishes the State Fair Commission and grants them the power to set administrative rules, including the no-carry rule.

This coupon deal may well be a hoax. The site it sends you to is not the BMV site as stated. Show me on the official BMV site below where this exists. I don't know if it is real or not, but as of now no one I've talked to can confirm it.

Ok, so I have a dumb question since I'm not an attorney. Why is it illegal to carry at the fair grounds but not in state parks?
it isn't illegal to carry to the fairgrounds just the state fair. you may take your firearm with you but you must leave it locked in your vehicle. any other time of the year carrying is perfectly legal at the fair grounds

I thought I had read it wasn't "Illegal" to carry during the fair, however it was against the fair policy and that you would be asked/escorted from the premises should you be discovered/reported.

Also I believe that there were several cases dismissed by Marion county prosecutors for "trespassing" citations issued to persons who were carrying weapons during the state fair.
