Bought this box of Remington Cor Lokt 150 gr .30-30 ammo at Wal-Mart in Shelbyville this week. Nothing fancy, just glad to see it coming back in the shelves and my Marlin likes it.

In a hurry so I didn’t look at the rounds until I got out of the store. First, I noticed the dingy looking brass. Then the alarming backwards bullet! Either that or the new .30-30 sledgehammer round.

Thought about keeping it and sending it, but chose to return and emailed Remington.

That's great! Out of curiosity, what'd you pay for that ammo at Walmart? I noticed my local Meijer (of all places) has had some Winchester 30-30 in stock recently. They originally put it out for $22 per box. I bought 4 boxes and the rest sat on the shelf for a couple weeks, so they raised the price to $25 and sold the rest within a week. Go figure.

I've seen that with government contracted ammo and that was long before COVID. I suppose with ammo companies trying to get out the product, they are having to push quantity over quality. I would guess that hiring a lot of new workers and the experienced ones being worked hard also has an impact. Definitely contact Remington.

You'll find some defects in every kind of ammunition.

I'm more stunned by your ability to return it. Every box I've ever bought is non-returnable regardless of the issue. Even if the wrong cartridges are in the box, you're stuck with 'em.
This. I'm surprised they didnt tell you to pound sand and call Remington.

I think it was $23.96 per box

Fun fact. In World War One the Germans set up armored sniper positions to fire on British trenches. The British started turning their bullets around similar to that one. It didn’t penetrate but caused the armor to spall and injure or kill the German snipers. The Germans did the same thing against British Mk 1 tanks.

I would have returned the 30-30 ammo also.

Ammo is one thing that retailers don't take returns on. Defective ammo is usually returned to the manufacturer by the consumer after getting a thumbs up from the manufacturer. If Walmart accepted a return on ammo, it probably was a mistake.

First thing that came to my mind was WWI Germans turning their bullets around. You beat me by 19 minutes.

    Good history lesson sir.

I had a couple bad rounds of .44 mag American Eagle years ago. It looked like they had been crushed on top by something. Federal had me send them back and they sent me a check for a little bit more than I paid for it.

    30 cal wadcutter cool!

Seriously though companies load billions of rounds so an Opps happens. Contact them.

When I was an Agency trainer we used duty JHP for qualifications and training. Over the course of a year (and out of about 250,00 rounds we sent down range) I found 2 rounds with primers backwards, 1 with no primers and 1 with the bullet backwards as a rare 9mm wadcutter. I use them as training aids as to why you 1 inspect ammo and 2 why we practice malfunction drills.

So 0.0016% were not up to standards. That's absolutely horrible. Where is the pride in American workmanship?

It helps that I just left and went straight back to the gun counter. He was likely the only one in the store to understand the issue……
My fault, I should have inspected the rounds more than a simple glance at the counter
