I took my Howa 1500 .308 to the range today.. And had about 45 rounds of factory ammo I bought a while back before I started reloading and some of my reloads.. At 200 yards I couldn't hit anything I wanted with the factory loads and was starting to question my scopes zero.. Then I got out my reloads and stacked em on the X.. I never really thought that I would get that kind of reaction out of factory rounds..

It is pretty amazing the difference between shooting ammo made for all rifles and occasions (factory loads) and your own, tailored to you and your rifle rounds isn't it? It took me by surprise the first few times I tested this out too.

My buddy had a stevens edge? in 243 for a while that suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked with ANY factory ammo he tried. Eventually we found a reload that would put 3 shots into 2.5" at 100yards. He finally traded it in, and got a 308 that puts 3 shots into an inch with reloads i use for my 308. It just goes to show u that the best loads fer yer gun are usually the ones u make, heh.

I have also noticed I don't get any muzzle flash with my reloads either.. I was wondering as to why that is?

You're using a faster powder than the factory loads. It's being consumed in your barrel instead of outside the muzzle.

Muzzle flash = wasted energy. The more efficient the ammo, the (significantly) more consistent the results.

One of my brothers has been looking at the Howa 1500 in 30-06.
How do you like your .308?

I have one in .204 Ruger w/ the Hogue over-molded stock. I really love that stock. I wish I could find one for ALL my rifles!

I love the Howa trigger.. Also like yourself the Hogue stock is awesome.. That was one of the main reasons I bought it.. I had a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag and was never really satisfied with my results.. The Howa has out performed my expectations.. I bought mine in a scope combo and really like the scope as well..

In 30-06 eh.. Is there any specific reason he wants one in that caliber?
