Would a new AWB kill the pistol suppressor market? One of the criteria for the old ban was that a pistol was an "assault pistol" if it had more than one feature, one of which was a threaded barrel. Assuming they don't make the same "mistake" again of allowing one feature (which kept AK's and AR's around, just without flash hiders or collapsible stocks), making threaded barrels a prohibited feature could really hurt the pistol suppressor market. How would you attach the can?

I thought about that (that would have to be the solution for rifles, permanently attached muzzle brake attachments), but on a pistol, you wouldn't be able to remove the slide.

Maybe with some ingenuity, the slide wouldn't be a problem.

The lazy redneck in me would just have 2 complete slides... one with the standard setup, and the other for quiet time.

To piggy-back your question: What would "threaded" actually encompass? Would my 3-lug barrel setup be at risk? :dunno:

Odds are they would include any method of attaching a suppressor, not just actual threading.

If a new ban is similar to the '94 ban, the threaded barrel shouldn't be a problem. The rule was two "evil features". Here's the specific rule:

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

-Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
-Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
-Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
-Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
-A semi-automatic version of a fully automatic firearm.

The threads count as one so you just have to avoid a second "evil" feature. We should be ok as long as the suppressor host isn't a Tec-9 or similar, doesn't have a foregrip, isn't a desert eagle or something else that weighs a ton and isn't a Glock 18 with full auto disabled or another gun that was originally a full auto pistol.

There's no way a new AWB would be a "2-feature ban" like the old one. It would almost assuredly be a "1-feature ban" like California's because the politicians saw that it was pretty easy to skirt the old AWB while still keeping most of underlying gun. Also, they will most assuredly ban "bullet buttons" which have allowed Californians to partially skirt their AWB. In fact, California is pushing a ban on bullet buttons now. Leland Yee Renews Call For 'Bullet Button' Loophole Law In Wake Of Tragedy (VIDEO)

Without a bullet button, the AR would have to be a break-action with a fixed magazine, or have a butt ugly stock. An AK would just have to look like a factory Saiga.

To offend all of your sense of firearm style, do a Google image search for California compliant AR-15's.

Funny thing is, anti's would probably be MORE afraid of that gun than a regular AR, it looks so EXOTIC. It must be twice as dangerous.
