The Saeqeh 2 is rolling off the Iranian assembly lines....

The unveiling ceremony comes on the 8th day of the ten-day celebrations commemorating the 36th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The fighter jet will do close-range cover and backup tactical missions as well as advanced pilot training missions, he added.

This will annoy the snot out of most of the Middle East.

After developing the Qaher-313 I'm surprised they have any funds left for more early April Fool's pranks

In any event I'm sure Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, etc. are all trembling in their boots and hoping that their F16s are a match for this cutting edge fighter, developed by a country known for it's aviation technology

An F-5 is a single seat T-38 with missile rails on the wing-tips. The Iranians put twin tails on it. I guess the F-4s and F-14s they had from when the Shah was running things finally broke.

The F-5 with the Aggressor Squadron paint job is an old picture. I think they went to F-16s in 1989. They put an F-5 on a stick at Nellis when I was TDY out there. Cool paint job.

Intradasting. I always thought the F5 was pretty sharp looking. A very clean design and had the classic "wasp" waist of the 1960's. Wonder what the reason was for the twin vertical stabilizers. Perhaps some wicked yaw instability issues that came about from an imprecise copy of the design? Maybe they liked the way the F-18 looked with the outward cant? (I wonder if they know that is actually to improve performance at certain very high angle of attack maneuvers as well as to get them into the airflow from the leading edge extensions).

The T-38 is a single engine jet. It's an F-5 with extra cockpit shoehorned in andan extra fin glued on.

Or it's a T-38 cockpit bolted to a F-5 powertrain with F-18 fins welded on the back.

    Doesn't Iran already have F-5's ?

Yes - that's why there's a resemblance. :) They basically reverse engineered the F-5 and added F/A-18 dual tail and an extra seat in the humpback cockpit.

The cockpit mod is somewhat reminiscent of Sov/Russian/Chinese designs. They probably got some help on that part of it.

Many people would love to know how operational their F-14s are. There were some espionage cases that revolved around Tomcat tech that was leaking out via China.
