Just got a .22 mag Contender for chucks and fox up close. Had a Smith 648 for years, sidearm for chucking (main rig a .243 rifle).
Took quite a few with a 9422M.
Nice lose range varmint round.
I did run my 648 for target..........IHMSA field pistol. Did just fine.
Ruger Single Six with the Mag cylinder is good for hiking the backwoods and State Parks, especially since open carry is permitted. Plow handle makes it easy to draw and present, while .22 mag hollow points will take down both rabid critters or rabid humans. It is my preferred woods gun.
For years the best .22mag round was Winchester 40gr,HP which done a great job on animals. Now days the new lighter rounds shoot flatter, tighter groups with more punch makes it even more versatile as a Hunting Rife. Hornady 45gr Critical Defense is a very devastating round in a Rifle for larger game.
