I've alerted my B-I-L about this. He got a pristine G-22 through Keisler's not too long ago. They evidently hand-picked his out as being just barely used (Probably a supervisor's gun he was told) since he's a Chief of Police himself.

I'm kind of hoping they'll let him buy one "personally" - as opposed to t-ferring it to his department.

I just called Keislers and I was told that since I was not law enforcement that I could not buy one. The lady did say that they have had some come in but she is not sure what they will do with them. I explained that I would be interested in purchasing one and once again she said that I could not. Maybe they are running them though the Orion side.

Aren't they two separate businesses now?

Yes. That was confirmed in Orion Arm's subforum by "Boomstick":

No, we purchased Kiesler's about 7years ago, and are 2 completly seperate business.

I think it was about $330 when we could buy back our Glock 22 3rd gens.

I don't think these are the ISP ones, but it should give you an idea of cost:

I'll keep watching the thread. If they are $350 and I have to pay a $35 FFL fee, plus shipping, they won't be worth it to me. I can buy a new M&P 9mm within $50 of that.

How much time do you two get to evaluate "your" gun for worthiness?

Do you get the new gun and immediately turn in your G17 or what?

If that's the case...I'd think that's a recipe for disaster.

Im not sure, i know our firearms Inst. tested 6 or so guns all in .45, some of those were:
    Glock 21
    S&W MMP
    Sig ?
    Springfield XD

But I have not seen the data from testing or why we chose the Glock.
From the test they did the Glock came in 4th behind the Springfield, S&W, and FNH I believe. No idea why they went with the Glock

. A friend of mine who is about to graduate from ILEA and join ISP offered me one of these pistols and explained that the story they're getting at the academy is that the primary reason is concern about safety -- they talked about the higher speeds of modern 9mm defensive ammo and the odds of over-penetration. I know, don't bother lecturing me, just passing on what I was told, and believe that's what he was told. He is not a gun lover or Internet gun expert, he was just regurgitating what he was told at ILEA.

From what I've heard they were having problems with the 4th gen 17s and Glock wasn't willing to do anything about it.

We turn in the Glock 17 and shoot the new gun the required number of rounds and then we go home with the new gun.

I am buying my old gun back for my boys when they are old enough.

I will buy back any gun i carry on duty. Mainly for passing on later, but I will probably carry the 17 off duty time to time.
