I own a Sig P-229 and have both the .40 and .357 barrels for it. As I was cleaning my Sig today I got to wondering which of the two calibers that others who own pistols which can readily swap back and forth prefer more? I enjoy shooting both calibers out of my Sig during range trips, but when it comes to personal protection, my choice is Winchester Supreme Elite PDX-1 ammunition in .40SW.

Our issue caliber is .357 Sig. I'm not impressed. We've carried at our agency since the 229/.357 Sig round came out. The round is nothing more than an amped up 9mm.

I believe that the .40 is a better round altogether. More bullet weight, reasonable velocity.

    I carry a P229 in .40

Ammo is cheaper and easier to find in .40 than for .357Sig

I plan on getting the .357 barrel for it just for fun though.
