I woke up this morning and turned on the TV while I was getting dressed for work. I own a machine shop and generally have to work 6-7 days a week.
Anyway the first story that hits me right in the face is the total outrage on CNN over the NRA suggestion Friday to place police at all US schools before Jan. 1st by the time the children return and until a permanent solution can be found.

    Facts

Sept. 11 2012 Four adults working in a dangerous part of the world are killed by terrorist in Benghazi Libya far from american soil and the headlines since have been total outrage from politicians and citizens over the lack of guns and armed security. This has rocked our country to the core, cost people their jobs and reach so far as to even to effect our next secretary of state.

    Moving forward

Dec. 14 2012 20 innocent children and 6 adults are killed in a elementary school in connecticut, the US is in total shock. The NRA is the only one to step in front of a camera and offer any solution to possibly save a child's life. Put armed guards at schools.

These very same people are now the headline on CNN this morning screaming " That damn NRA the only thing those gun lovers can come up with is more guns , how are more guns going to fix anything" ?

When it comes to violence, conservatives are willing to recognize basic human nature and deal with it by promoting the common-sense right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. Liberals refuse to accept reality, and look for "solutions" that won't work and will restrict individual rights.

When it comes to reproductive rights, liberals are willing to recognize basic human nature by promoting common-sense stances on birth control and allowing women to make their own choices about their bodies. Conservatives refuse to accept reality, and look for "solutions" that either won't work or will restrict individual rights (or both).

Neither side has a logically-consistent position on all issues, and nobody has a monopoly on good ideas. It makes no sense that both sides so unwilling to give a little.

Your opinion is yours to have, and I'm not looking to start a war of words with you, but this issue has less to do with conservatism and more to do with the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, including the lives of those in the womb.

I wonder what the media would say to curbing Hollywood's rights to produce movies and games glorifying violence. Or what about an executive order that prohibits the the media from using the name or picture of attackers like Adam Lanza so that copycats don't think they can get on TV for killing? These would arguably be effective parts of the "solution to gun violence." (I'm not saying I support this, by they way - just throwing out hypothetical.) The media would cry violation of the First Amendment. Interesting how they select only certain portions of the constitution to uphold, isn't it?

Which makes me wonder where the American Civil Liberties Union stands on protecting our fundamental, civil liberty to own guns.

Teacher's Unions. What the Hell are they doing to help secure the students? Oh, that's right - students don't pay dues...

Why isn't anyone going after them. Where are they in this discussion? Any bets the leaders are hiding behind their own guns and armed guards.

Liberal politicians are trying to find a blanket solution to an individual problem. The innocent law abiding citizens who didnt do anything wrong are always the ones who get screwed.

I find it funny that the media has no problem with guns in the school after the shooting has already taken place. Just look at all of the pictures of the hero police officers showing up with their own deadly assault rifles on school grounds escorting the survivors to safety(WITH UNSAFE ASSAULT RIFLES!!!). Now that the NRA wants cops in a school, Those hero cops become a dangerous liability?:dunno:

And the NRA is blaming violent video games. Turning schools into mini prisons doesn't make anyone safer. Who will protect us at the mall, theater, McDonald's, the park, and anywhere else there could be some violence?

Restricting guns won't help anything. We know that and even many non-gun owners know that.

Doesn't matter if you're pro or anti 2A, we're all going to be getting screwed if rights are restricted. It'll only hurt worse if we've got to pay for mini prisons in every neighborhood because politicians won't get rid of the stupid Gun Free Zones.

I should not be surprised by this, but to spend 3 months bashing anyone remotely involved with Benghazi libya over the head with a rock for lack of armed security and saying men with guns could have stopped an attack of heavily armed terrorist and then to come out and say F U I don't want a police officer in my child's school is totally insane. I could even understand if they said ok but we still want your guns.

The only solution I have been able to come up with is banning tampons.

If getting rid of an AR-15 with a 30 round mag will stop insane people from killing kids
    Then
Getting rid of tampons surely will get rid of PMS crazed women that don't know what the hell they are talking about or what the F they want

So, first they see the need for self defense in a hostile environment,
then they don't see the need for self defense in a hostile environment.

At least they got that right - no one speaks for me but me, for good or ill, eloquently or as an illiterate. Wayne LaPierre speaks for himself and for his organization, and while I agree with a few of his points, he most certainly does not speak for me. Nor does anyone, except me. Which may not be the best situation, but it is the situation.

Do your co-workers speak for you, since you work at the same place of employment?

That bunch over there at million moms is gaining speed like a rocket. And I **** you not there is not 1 fact posted by them on the whole damn site, they are worse than the news media, but I also blame the news media for providing the rocket with fuel. Why haven't I seen at least 1 thing on tv that is fact based beside Ted Nugent. Is there not 1 tv station left in this country that will air facts. What's the need to ban a 2012 AR when the next wacko walks into the school with grandpas C&R 1897 winchester loaded with #4 buckshot thats gonna be one ugly mess. Them old things would damn near bump fire. When did americas job become deciding what weapon insane killers could or could not use. Some nut job on million moms stepped up and proclaimed to be a responsible gun owner, and saw absolutely no reason any civilian should posses a military weapon. He owned a semi auto pistol that held 9 rounds and that was all anybody needed. I clarified that I fully agreed with him 100%. That would probably have been a by far better choice for any of the last five killers. Smaller, lighter, more maneuverable in tight environments and with proper training and practice they could accurately put 100 rounds out in less than a minute.
Why are we trying to control killers choice of weapon this is nuts.
If they start flinging 20# propane tanks through the windows will we ban grills and reinstate high cap mags ?

The idea of armed police officers in schools is not a terrible bad idea-on face value. However, the quality of the individual police officer may be called into question. I know that they would not be able to recruit top notch individuals to go and sit in a school, if that is their only job.

The schools have always been, and will continue to be a "soft target". These have been targets of opportunity in other countries. We have been very fortunate on that aspect, and hope that continues. But the real question is how do we "harden" these targets?

Where are the unborn mentioned in the constitution?

There is no distinction in the Constitution between life in the womb or out. Neither should there be such a distinction in our law.

Plus, "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is in the Declaration, not the Constitution.
