Cops Take School Kids' DNA in Murder Case | ABC News - Yahoo! News i thought a juvenile had to have a parents consent for stuff like this.
Ramos cautioned that the collection did not necessarily mean authorities had a DNA profile of the suspect.
"I think the answer is, kids can consent, and if they consented and it was knowing and intelligent, [law enforcement] can do the search," he told the Sacramento Bee.

How can a 13 year old know all the implications of a consent? Most adults don't even know...I consider my self to be of average education and knowledge and I would be reluctant to consent tp an interview in a murder investigation.
What else can minors consent to besides murder investigations, birth control, and abortions in California?
This is all true. Further how many 13 year old kids, even if they have an idea of the implications, which they probably don't, are going to have the fortitude to tell a cop to go pound sand? In most all cases, the intimidation is complete before the first word is spoken.
Serpico finally posted something I agree with. I can't see how this is legal, but it is California.
