Discovery of 9mm bullet prompts LaPorte High School lockdown

    From Facebook:

La Porte High School is currently on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to the discovery of one unexpended round of 9mm ammunition that was found in a parking lot outside the school. Further investigation is in progress and again the lockdown is a precautionary measure.

The lockdown at LPHS has been lifted and the all clear given. Thanks to all involved for your diligence.

Looks like it's all green, but seems like a lot of panic for a bullet, I'm curious as to what they found out during the 3 hour lockdown...

I just found .22 LR, .38 spl and .357 Mag ammunition in my office. I'm locking down! (and that's just the miscellaneous ammo I just have sitting around...not the everyday stuff.

Goodness. Imagine if someone drove by and tossed a handful of spent casings out the window. They would have to close the school for the rest of the year.

Lockdown? For an unspent round in the parking lot?

What were they worried about? Environmental damage from lead leeching?

Hold everything! I just found a cache of thousands of rounds of ammo that I can see from my office! I really have to lock down now.

Just got a recorded call from the principal about this, as I am a guardian for a teen that attends. Sounds like a little overreaction to me, but probably mainstream these days. Apparently, nobody was allowed to go to the bathroom during the lockdown. :n00b:

I can see this replacing bomb threats, forget making a call, just drop a round in the parking lot and you get half a day off.

Geesh, one more thing to worry about: dropping a round in the school parking lot.

Now that I think about it, it's one of the likely places to drop a round. You have to unholster if you are going in, so it's a very real possibility someone emptied a chamber and dropped a 9mm round while doing so.

    Could be anywhere
HoughMade...I'm with you. I just looked behind me while sitting at my desk and saw like 30 loaded magazines! Time to call off work and hit the bar.

    .
It took them 3 hours to find out that round wasn't going off without a gun?

They just informed a bunch of kids how to get out of future testing.

So they have no one in the administration that can think?

    Administration:
    1) Single round found in parking lot.
    2) Maybe someone is inside the school with a gun!!!
    3) Let's lock all the children inside the building where we think a gunman may be roaming around.
    4) This will create a target rich environment and we may get on the news as the next Sandy Hook.

    A little logic:
    1) Single round found in parking lot.
    2) Maybe someone is inside the school with a gun!!!
    3) Let's get all of the children out of the school ASAP so they are not trapped in classrooms.
    4) Pull the fire alarm as everyone is trained and practices exiting the building when the alarm is pulled.
    5) Visually monitor the students as they exit looking for anyone with a bulge in their pants.

    More logic:
    1) Have someone with some tactical thinking come up with a solution rather than Locking Down or following advice on the internet.

I'm working from my home office this afternoon and between the firearms, ammo, reloading components, and knives, I'm probably not going to make it out of here alive.

Tell Fenway thanks for the fish.
