The largest shell my new Maverick 88 shoots is 3". I just got a bunch 3" mag 00Buck (15 pellets) which are very cool I think. Makes me wonder what size is the largest mass produced shotgun shell is. A friend of mine says 3.5 shells. Has anyone ever heard of 4" or larger?

I know there are 10ga 3.5in shells. I don't know how long of a shell is available in 8ga, although I don't think 8 ga is very much available.

Ian, I turkey hunt with a mossberg 835' and shoot 3.5" shells, with a ported barrel and a limbsaver, it kicks like a mule with it's head stuck in a electric fence. Great fun sighting in a new choke.

I saw a "Two-Bore" shotgun at a gunshow one time.

I can't recall the shell size but it looked about the size of a golf ball!

Why would you WANT a 4" shell?

Standard legnths were 3",3 1/8",3 1/4",and 4 1/2". Standard loads ran from 4ozeq X 1 1/4oz to 7dreq X 2oz. The black powder loading for the 8ga BP Paradox is 10dr BP and a 1250 grain lead bullet. This load gives about 1550fps and 6300 foot punnds of energy.

I own a 12 gauge 3 1/2 and I do not even like to shoot that. I would not mind having a 10 gauge but it would be a safe queen. So it will be a long time before I have a 10 gauge.
