2 injured, suspect in custody after shooting outside Tennessee naval base | Fox News

As I understand this story (so far), a disgruntled and disaplined employee left work to go to his car, then returned and started shooting people. The details haven't been released yet, but really aren't needed to discuss whether Military bases should be gun free zones or not.

I'm certain that some people will state that the bad guy shouldn't have been allowed to have a gun in his car and will therefore use this case as further proof that more gun control is needed. Others will state that if more good guys had guns, the bad guy would be less inclined to start shooting.

As I did not have the privilege to serve in our military, what is the opinion of those who did (and by the way, thank you for your service).

99.9% of all US military bases are "gun free zones". Personally, as someone who has served, I can see the debate on whether to allow carry or not. There are some who will just not be able to handle the responsibility of being able to carry a weapon on them (outside of their issued weapon, and sometimes both), or may not be mentally stable enough after a deployment to carry, but I think those instances should be a case-by-case issue. I know that if I was able to carry while I was in, I would've bought my 1911 a lot sooner.

I also think that if more people were allowed to carry, Former Army Major Nasan Hadal, would have never killed as many people as he did. I'm almost positive there would have been less deaths if someone who could carry, was, and could have taken him out as soon as he started shooting.
