I actually like firing a right handed bolt left handed; I use my right hand for the action, so my left stays on the trigger and I keep my sight picture better. Wicked fast that way.

This is my take as well. Plus trying to sell a left handed bolt gun later is harder than a right.

Since I believe we must all be able to make a shot from either shoulder with any firearm, from any position, I am reluctant to assign the term "handed" to any firearm.

Who says that a rifle with the bolt handle on the right is a right handed rifle? A marketing departent maybe?

Rant over, I think Savage and Remington both make rifles with the bolt handle on the left.

For faster field follow up shots from any position where you're not resting the front of the rifle or have it on a bipod, it makes a huge difference. It also keeps your hand out of your line of sight when chambering a new round. Cycling a right handed bolt from your left shoulder blocks a lot of your vision between shots. I know because I kept trying to shoot a right handed bolt that way and got tired of throwing my hand in my face to chamber a new round. This is fine if you're never going to leave the range.

Btw - Ruger makes their new scout rifle in left hand. That's what I have my mind on. I don't need the 7mm mag, personally. Most of my hunting is closer range hog hunting so I'm going to the scout system for a rifle.

Please post a video of someone cycling a bolt action rifle opposite handed while maintaining a cheek weld. I want to see it. When I try that, neither the bolt handle nor my right hand will travel through my face with breaking my cheek weld.

I'm not tech savvy enough to post a video of it, but I shoot RH rifles LH all the time and do exactly as the other poster said with .223-.308. I've not tried some of the longer rounds other than the only ones I couldn't do it with were my .50bmgs since the bolt throw is like 8-9 inches.

As a lefty shooter I tried a LH bolt gun and didn't like it as much.

That is what I was thinking. This guy would have the bolt handle in his teeth if he didn't lift his head.

WITNESS!!!!!!! right handed-left eye dominant (spelling?) with a good rest really fast follow up shots (except for Mosins where you need a week for your shoulder to recover after each shot.....) I know...I know come on mosindudes!!

Work the bolt with your right hand and keep the left free for the trigger. I have always worked the action that way and as Mr evilwrench said, it's wicked fast. The only lefty bolt I own or ever have owned is a Savage .17 bull barrel.

I have always shot righthand guns lefthanded until I got a chance to buy a Browning T-2 .22 a few years ago. Since then I have bought a CZ 452 lefthand .17 HMR and really like using the lefthand bolt action. I will not buy another righthand gun unless there are not other options.

Yeah, that is my point. I want to believe Shibumi, but I don't know how to do it without my hand hitting my face and breaking my weld. Like lots of people, I am right handed but left eye dominant. I have always shot rifles left handed. I used to always stick to lever actions but I have added some lefty bolt actions.

I looked around on youtube and the like after this discussion and it looked like most people I saw trying it had their scope mounted much farther forward than mine are. Maybe I just set my rifles up that way BECAUSE I shoot them left handed. I just tried every rifle I own except my .50bmgs. .223-.308 and my hand when working the bolt misses my face by an inch or so. I know people I've shot with commented on how fast I could accurately shoot with them.

I just thought that's the way it was.
