I used to do many different things, but not so much any more.
It's usually caused by either no money, or no time, but I lost interest in a lot of what I used to do.

    Here's a few various projects.

I used to make pens, and the body of the pens were cast by myself from composite materials.

I eventually moved to what was considered "kitless", but I don't have any pics of those.

When I first held a friend's 1911 with mammoth tusk grips, I knew had I had to explore the ancient material.
Here's what the beasts looked like, before they went extinct about 10,000 years ago.
When recovered today (mostly from Siberia), the usable parts are the fossilized tusks, and teeth.

    i-kXVPw5F-L.jpg

I started by locating a well-respected supplier of stabilized material. This was my first purchase...... Tusk on top, tooth on bottom. Each piece is about 5" long, and 1/4" thick.

    i-zzND6XV-L.jpg

I used the tusk to make knife handles (scales) for this Hogue neck knife.
The tusk cuts similar to bone, and I just roughed-out the pieces with a fresh, thin-kerf blade.

Cut a brass pin, and used some 5-minute epoxy.

    IMG_5815%20copy-L.jpg

A bit of machine sanding, and a lot of hand sanding.

    IMG_5824%20copy-L.jpg

Eventually, it came out fairly close to the way I envisioned. There isn't any finish coat on this .... and none seemed to be needed.

As I'm in my seventies now, this is probably about as involved as I'm going to get with "making things".

At home, I don't really like to make anything. But my wife and kids know I can so I get stuck making all kinds of s**t. Cabinets, doors, bars, coffee tables, porches, decks, shelves, picture frames, charcuterie boards, you name it.

Here are some of the blanks I've cast and have in waiting. I have a few thousand blanks in solids and numerous combinations.
I cast them for scales (knife) and grips when I used to cast.
This is just a sample of what I have, and it only represents the colors involved.
The real magic is revealed as they get turned to size and shape. It's always a surprise what's inside.

If you get interested in selling some scales give me a shout, I’d definitely be interested in buying some of them.

You'll see the lower one if you ever find yourself locked in the frunk of a new electric F150. :D

    It's the emergency release bezel.
I don't think anyone would want to kidnap me. I might not even fit in,

Does it glow? It kind of looks like it has the phosphorescence in it.

The production parts will glow. These are just white polypropylene for testing mold function and to do some water intrusion tests Ford has to run.

That glow in the dark material is too spendy to just play around with.

I make a lot of random stuff. Building things is my favorite past time. Some of it out of necessity and some of it just for fun.

I make a lot of different styles of brass knuckles...

    Knives...

    wedge2.jpg

Slingshot frames is a recent thing I wanted to build...

I rebuilt this lathe last year. I took it down to every bolt and screw and replaced anything that needed it...

I had a sort of falling out with my kydex guy last year, so I've been trying to figure out how to work with it while making simple things for my work vests...
