No, what I'm saying is this. As a parent you should have already had discussions with your child so that by the time they are 17 or 18 they can make up their own minds what is pornographic or not, whether it has artistic value or not. By the time your kids are 17 or 18 chances are they have probably already had sex and if not it isn't far off.

By the time they are 17 or 18 you had better have them indoctrinated because if you don't it's too late. For the most part I really don't care what they teach them at school. If it's something I don't agree with I use it to have a conversation not bury my head in the sand. Someone out there is talking to your kid about things every single day.

IOW, you don't give a damn how other parents would prefer to teach their kids, since the schools know best what they should be taught?
    Mom, Dad, step aside.
Oh, and NAMBLA advocates are now literary sources.
Seriously, what color is the sky in your world?

    Could be anywhere
I don't see anything wrong with what the teacher done. It was an advanced English class for college credits. The kids was 17 and 18 years old, young adults that confront sexuality every single day. Young adults that within the next year or year and a half will be out of the house and off to college. If you haven't talked to your kids about sex way before then you have done them a serious disservice. If you think they aren't discussing among themselves your fooling yourselves and it's time to get your head out of the sand. It isn't like it was a plain ole English class for freshman. Even then by the time they are freshmen you had better have had "the talk" and make sure those lines of communication are open, like way open. No damn wonder most kids are so screwed up in the head. How the heck do you teach your kids to confront reality when you can't confront it yourself?

I don't mind talking to my kids about sex and providing them what perspective I feel is relevant. Some government employee who's supposed to be teaching them how to earn a living has no place in that discussion. Who are they? What do they believe? Why should I want them trying to modify the beliefs of a minor? You did include 17 and unless you want to change the legal definition they are not yet adults...and until you do any argument to the contrary is moot.

Allah is God and Muhammad his messenger. The final revelation as told by the angel Gabriel has already spoken on this topic.

    Allahu akbar.

While everyone is screeching about "free speech," how many of you here are comfortable with your high schoolers having some of Allen Ginsberg's filth read aloud to them?
While his actions are tame compared to much of what crops up in the news around the theme of "problems in school", I can understand some being upset by them.

That said, education is mandatory, but the public variety is not.

If one chooses the gov't teat, one should expect that the proceeds will, at least occasionally, leave a bad taste in one's mouth.

Do kids look at porn, talk dirty, etc.? You betcha. But there is a tacit legitimization by an authority figure in this instance. If this guy is a well respected educator, as he seems to be, it makes it that much worse. And that can undermine a parent's efforts at teaching morality, when the vaunted English teacher reads smut in the class room.

I guess I'm the only one, around here's, that read "Lady Chatterly's Lover" in high school? Granted, parents were notified of the assignment.

I don't know why you guys say the Ginsberg poem is porno. It doesn't turn me on. But maybe it turns you on. To each his own, I guess.

I don't see what the big deal is? if they can't handle a terrible poem then they have some bigger issues.

I had to Google this poem as I had never heard of it. WOW!!!!!

It is very explicit! I'm not sure why you would need to read this in a classroom. However, since I'm old (48), I figured I would run it by my daughter who is 24. She is a college graduate and she stated this poem would have made her uncomfortable in college. And she had read some things in college that were basically pornographic.

    Hi all.
All I know is ... is that there is a SKYLINE in the Cincy area that has a hallway decorated with posters of this
Ginsberg and the Jack whackalack or whatever his name is ? And I've always had the gut feeling that if I looked
em up online - I wouldn't like anything about'em. Thanks for saving me the wasted time for not having to do that.

    Be safe all.
