This doesn't surprise me. We should not be there. Hope the Col. doesn't get in trouble for his letter.

He won't get in any "trouble", but you can bet he's never getting promoted and his next assignment will not be commensurate with his rank and experience. In layman's terms, He's done. Good news is he's a LtCol. He's probably already past his eligible retirement time.

That's what I was going to say. This guy is probably on his way out, or is already out, which is why he's talking.

It seems pretty obvious to me that fighting the war in Afghanistan is a giant waste of time, resources, and most importantly lives.

Very reminiscent of another time and another place, isn't it? You know, the one where I and many, many others of my generation lost their "sweet boyish laughter" forever.

We killed the people who helped the terrorists years ago. We got Osama. Lets go home and stop occupying and nation building. It doesn't work.

Weird, I was told in another thread that this attitude is rare among your particular demographic.

And how long will the 5000 man State Department Army that will provide security for the 11,000 person Iraqi Embassy stay in country. That in itself will be one very, very expensive diplomatic mission!

...Lets go home and stop occupying and nation building. It doesn't work.

Now they're considering arming the Syrian resistance? Before you know it we'll have troops on the ground there too. From one middle eastern police detail to the next. McCain says "the bloodletting has got to stop", why? It's a revolution those tend to get bloody. Let these people fight for their freedom so maybe they'll appreciate it. Sad thing is that this opposition is just going to set up a radical islamic govt., in place of the current regime, so what will we have accomplished besides arming a future enemy. We need to stop trying to export democracy at the cost of American lives.

I remember GWBush stating the US would not "nation build" shortly after winning his first term. Seems like a waste of US resources and lives.
