I was making a delivery at the Speedway Marathon terminal on Friday and they had one of your brand new monster tanker trailers in the shop prepping it. They said they take delivery of them and they send them up to you.

It is HUGE. They had a regular Indiana tanker in there too and that monster towered over it. The couldn't believe I new so much about it. I told him I "know" a guy who pulls them. He asked who and obviously I couldn't tell him who. -Jason

Well I'm on vacation this week so another guy is in Speedway picking it up right now. I won't get it until I get back on Tuesday. Then I start hauling gas, diesel and alcohol!

I think it's 12' 6" tall and 50' long. The trailer is 23,000 empty, and 40,000 total with the tractor. It can gross 129,000 lbs.

What is it used for? I've never seen anything like that at the local gas station.

We run them in Michigan mostly. There are a few places in NWI we can go with a 24 hour overweight permit. I deliver to 3 stations in Indiana. 2 in LaPorte and 1 in South Bend. I also pick up at the ethanol plant in South Bend. We can also go to Hammond, IN to our terminal there but that is rare.

What is the advantage of one huge tanker that needs special permits over two normal sized ones?
Paying two drivers? Would be easier to get around town.

I did find out why trucks went to single wide tires with aluminum rims, it saves about 100 lbs per wheel and roughly 1000 lbs per vehicle, so I'm told.
