I've only gotten back into guns last year. And she's been disinterested in the whole thing. So her knowledge of them is limited to seeing my XD on my side. Since she's a junior in high school, she gets inundated with lib propaganda. Tonight guns came up in a discussion and she said that she still thought that low magazine capacity was a good idea. I tried to explain that all you have to do is carry more mags. She seemed to think that the time to reload was going to give everyone a chance to do something. I unloaded my gun, grabbed a couple empty mags, put one in the gun, and one on the table. When I pulled the slide back and it locked back I told her that this is what happens when you shoot all the bullets. I hit the mag release, let it drop, put the other one in, and hit the slide release. All she said was "Ooh... Never mind. I didn't realize it was that easy."

I've seen that one too. In fact I was referring to it before I showed her in real life. Real life is way more convincing than a video.

You could encourage her to set up her own INGO account and learn from a wide cross-section of gun owners rather than from the propagandists who have very little idea what they are talking about. Our last little gaggle of teens have grown up and become busy with life, but we have always done well accommodating them while they are with us.

One of the Columbine shooters had 10 round magazines. He just carried a bunch of them. Same for the Virginia Tech shooter, but he also had a few 15s.

Agreed. I was thinking more about who's demonstrating rather than in person vs video. Seeing a sheriff demonstrate it not only shows there's no difference in magazine size vs time, but also shows that most leo's disagree with capacity limits also...

    .
Depends on how fast they are coming out, at 20 per second even 30 rounds doesn't last long.

Our government stamped out $2 single shot pistols for the French Resistance in WWII. Capacity wasn't a factor.

The only way to get high school kids educated on shooting and guns in general is to get them out to the range having fun. Without personal experience, the system has them.

    Show her this video.
Tell her, the law only affects the defender.
The attacker can bring large mags, or many smaller ones.
Mr. Law Abiding Citizen (average, not mr, tactical) usually has the one mag. Or a second, sitting in the safe.

You should def take her shooting! Another thing not to forget is that criminals and or people with intent to do bad things don't follow the law anyhow... So what does a mag restriction really do??

She did mention she is thinking of joining the army when she graduates and JROTC in the meantime. We've warned her that she better get good at running beforehand if she doesn't want to have a hard time. Hopefully I can convince her to start shooting now, to prepare.

I'm not sure what a mag capacity restriction really does in an era where you can 3D print an extension to replace the baseplate and swap in a stronger spring. It's not going to last, but bangers and spree shooters won't care.

Exactly. For their purposes, it only has to work once.

Finally got around to watching the video. Even Christy has some training/experience (nothing wrong with this). Tactical reloads, both keep count (having three targets I think makes this easier) and reload with the last round in the chamber so slide not locked back no need to use the slide release. Cuts down the elapsed time

Our government stamped out $2 single shot pistols for the French Resistance in WWII. Capacity wasn't a factor. . .

Which were intended to be used to assassinate an enemy and take his superior firearm. Assassination and self-defense have wildly different dynamics.
