1979 just outside of the base at Beaufort South Carolina,I was riding a bus that passed a man on a bicycle carrying about 6 bags of groceries.
Narrow road, zero shoulder, approaching bus, and a steep decline into the swamp.
You could see it coming in slow motion.
That poor guy tried his damnedest to get right on the edge of the shoulder to avoid be hit by the bus
The last thing I saw as we passed was the poor guys feet up in the air, along withe the back wheel of the bike and a bag of groceries bouncing down the shoulder.
He went over the edge into the swamp about 20' down.
Never did find out if he was o.k.
