Thought i would put this new picture up for those following the M45 civilian release. Looks like it will be out fairly soon if you can find one. Have to love the serial number "EGA" that would be Eagle Globe and Anchor for the non Marines out there.
I don't know what happened with my last post... Anyway, I jokingly say "good job!" As I see they paid a bunch of money for a gun that has failed... This is just one of the site's that you can go to, to find the bad news...

Complains about m16 wants 1911 priceless.
Don't take me for a 1911 hater, its an amazing firearm but i don't think it's what our troops should be carrying.
1)Its too heavy
2)Limited round capacity compared to other .45
3) Costs 2-4x the price of equally good pistols. If it was head and shoulders better then the rest i would have no problem spending them money same as switching from the m16 to the hk416 or Scar. I would rather spend that extra 1-1.5k on better gear in other area's or just increase their pay.
I do wonder how much they will be selling them for. Leaning towards the S&W E series with the bobtail as my next 1911.
Read that article and saw the pictures myself when they first came out. I agree that those failures were concerning to say the least and atypical for a Colt 1911. I own 1911's that have far exceeded the test round count count and seen documented 1911's that have Greatly as in 50,000 rounds, exceeded the test.
It appears that Colt did not take into account or had not discovered the stress issues with the new frame design initially on the rail guns for that test. I am certainly not an engineer, but have read the explanation on stress risers due to new design elements.
If you look at the "Final" M45 compared to the original test gun they have widened both the FCS and Rail dimensions to reduce the stress riser issue. Additionally they have adjusted the springing on the pistol.
Price point is going to be around $2000. Comercial guns will be built by the Custom Shop and come with a proof target of under 2" for 25 yards I believe, Colt Lifetime warranty. So as a comercial high end 1911 they are right in the ballpark with their intended competition (Wilson, NH, Baer, Brown, Springer Pro...)
As for the Corps selection, It is a platform MARSOC knows and trusts. There are certainly other highy capable options, HK45 off the top of my head. But in its role as a SECONDARY weapons system, for highly trained operators, it certainly is a viable choice. What it gives up in capacity it makes up for in proven ability to deliver a very accurate first shot from the draw (compared to a DA/SA or heavier triggered Striker fired gun). Not saying there could not have been other good choices, but I still think it was a solid decision provided Colt squared away the structural issues.

Jim, you know I love 1911s and think they are a great gun. I am bolo in terms of military needs and such, but question the efficacy of a $2k gun for even the upper echelon troops. How many of these will need to be made? Also, who will service them? I want the best for our troops, but I still question the "need" even if percieved for a top tier pistol when I would rather have that money poured into a rifle.
What can the Colt Rail gun do, outside of off bench accuracy and the "trigger quality" that a Glock 21 cannot? I submit that also, the G21 (or HK45) is less expensive, less maintenance intensive for small parts, not as affected by small parts fitment and fires the same cartridge as the Colt Rail gun? In terms of armorers even, the HK45 or G21 would not require the same level or armorer skill that the Colt Rail gun would REQUIRE. You know 1911s, I know 1911s, even a thumb safety fitting could confound the average shade tree, yet a complete strip down, diagnosis and repair of a poly-sorta-gun can be done by a drunken chimpanzee.
I love the 1911 and run them well enough, but this move sounds more like "make the ol' Gunny happy" rather than efficiency and cost control. For the price of 1 Colt rail gun, 2 HK45s could be had.

I was under the impression that the purchase contract and price included factory service for XX number of years on the gun...
not if they keep barring re-ups
If they are going to change to a polymer frame, i would hope they would choose an AMERICAN gun manufacturer, rather than a foreign one.
Why? They haven't in the past. The need the best, no matter where it is made.
