I was recently looking at an underfolder AK for sale online, and the website listed the folded length as 24" with a 16.25" barrel. The overall length with the folding stock fully extended is 34.25". I prefer the underfolders to the fixed stock models, but when I read the measurements on that model, a specific legal question came to mind. My understanding is that on folding stock AK's, the overall length for legal purposes is measured with the folding stock (whether it is a sidefolder or underfolder) fully extended. In that fully extended position, the overall length must be at least 26" and the barrel must be at least 16" or greater to avoid SBR status.

    Is my understanding correct?

Unless you live in Michigan, where they have some dumb state laws. I wanted a folder badly when I lived up there, but couldn't do it, so glad I got out.
