Well folks, my take is that he's a 'Nam vet and likely has faced these before. If he grabs the Mosin instead of an AR, AK or pistol, it says to me one of two things:

1) I'm too poor to afford a better gun

or

2) I have faced these things, know their capabilities, and damn well know my weapon. Now get the hell off my lawn, punk!

I would vote for the latter as even an upgrade to an SKS wouldn't be all that expensive, nor would an upgrade to a Hi-Point carbine.
