I'm trying to mount my Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP on an R700 VSF using Leupold Mark 4 steel rings and I can't find a definitive answer on minimum scope clearance between the scope and the barrel. I have a 0 MOA base on there but was thinking of moving to a solid 20 MOA base to reach out to 750+ yards.
I know some on the webs suggest if there's light between them, you're good. I can't get the scope lens cover on it but probably could if I shave it down a bit. Is this too close? Thoughts? Would love to see how you have yours set up and if there are any SMEs out there on LR / Precision shooting that have thoughts on the subject that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
