MADISON, MN — A mother has been criminally charged for the efforts she took to save her son’s life with cannabis oil, and could spend up to two years in prison if convicted.

In 2011, eleven-year-old Trey Brown suffered a traumatic brain injury. Trey was struck in the skull with a baseball and put into a coma due to bleeding in his brain. When he finally awoke, he was “a shell of himself” and suffered from chronic pain, seizures, learning disabilities, and suicidal thoughts.

After three years and trying 18 different pharmaceutical drugs, Trey's problems persisted. The harsh drugs made his depression worse and made him not want to live.

In desperation, his mother traveled to Boulder Colorado to obtain cannabis oil. It was like a "miracle in a bottle," and within hours his crippling pain and spasms subsided. The boy showed drastic improvement in school.

But when his school found out the cause of his improvement, they called the police. His mother was charged with multiple offenses including "child endangerment." She could now face up to 2 years in prison.

"How is endangering your child taking his pain away?" Angela asked.

The irony is that last year, Minnesota became the 22nd state to pass a medical marijuana law, but it doesn't take effect until July 2015. Until then, law enforcers and prosecutors are proving their willingness to coldly enforce unjust laws and break apart families for no reason.

Or maybe the government should stay the hell out of peoples lives...
'Waaaaay too late for that argument. Now we just get to pick WHICH AMOUNT of interference we have to live with. Of course, if more people were willing to accept responsibility for their own actions/inactions instead of wanting the "government" to make everything better, we'd all have more personal freedom.

Suffering families will find no relief in the Hoosier state. Indiana law allows for busting up families for the exact same reason. Efforts to pass a medical marijuana law have all failed.

A child who finds relief with cannabis oil would quickly be deemed a "child in need of service" and thrust into foster care.

    Shooting dope? Really?

Yeah, if people want to shoot dope, I could care less. I know it is poison, but I don't see why we can't regulate it like booze and apply the same criminal law to it. Marijuana to me is filthy and disgusting.

However, the lack of medical exception for dope is moronic (Indiana has a medical exemption for meth, horse and coke, but not dope). But the hyperbolic "children will die" based on the complete lack of medical evidence is a bit much.
