100 bucks is going to be a tough pricerange to hit on the mosin. I understand its a cheap gun and you dont want to spend a fortune, but if you can bump it to 150 you will get 2x the quality

I guess I kind of understand why magnified optics might be desirable, but a red dot? Why? It's kind of like all the rice'd up beaters driving by my house.

For $100 you're not going to find anything you'll be happy with. I think you'll be more satisfied with learning how to shoot well with iron sights. Shooting is more about skill than equipment.

I just ordered a new stock for the rifle which takes care of a few things i wanted to improve. I guess if I'm going to buy optics I might as well get something nice.

not 100% sure, I was at beach grove firearms and really liked the range there but i think i would prefer an outdoor range, maybe like atterbury.

I think atterburry has a 100 yard limit, but I would not swear to that as Ive never shot on there public range. In any case for ranges in that area the cheapest scope I would go with is priced at 119 with a plex reticle, or 129 with bdc.

Youtube can be a great tool, but it can also be your biggest enemy. I was watching a guy do a review about a barska scope. HE was talking about how great it was and on camera he grabbed the turret and said "one of the great thing about this scope is the turret moves very smooth. Alot of scope have a really jumpy turret, but this one is not like that, its smooth as silk"

The problem with the above statement is a scope's turret is ment to be jumpy (clicks). His scope was basically broke and He didnt know enough about it to know that. Morrel of the story is make sure the info you get comes from a creditable source not some guy on youtube, that may know less than you do.

    Any reason you chose leupold?

I just think their great scopes. Really clear sight view we have one on the 22-250. But with you to ill watch 100 vids and see what different people think about it.

I've shot my M44 out to 600 yards with iron sights. I was comfortable hitting at 400, scoping for that range would be ideal, whatever power that is. I don't know much of anything about scopes, but I do know if you want a red dot, I highly recommend getting a Vortex Sparc from A&A. I love mine.
