    Update: I was back at the range yesterday, with the goal of getting sighted in @ 100 yards, and trying out the 200gr FTX bullet.

    I loaded up a dozen of the 50.5gr BL-C(2), 225gr SGK loads and headed out. By noon the temp was 60 degrees and the wind was fairly steady (I'll have to go back on a calmer day to verify my windage).

    I shot a fouling shot, adjusted my scope, then shot a group. The first 3-shot group of the day was 0.50", so that was nice. However I misread the first shot, and moved the knobs the wrong way, so I some time getting back to center and getting adjusted for 3" high at 100 yards. A spotting scope would be nice... however a plastic tote turned upside down over the scale worked to make it stable in the wind.

    As my loading block sat out in the weather I noticed a consistent trend. (I was taking my time, taking notes, etc. - 12 shots took me an hour or more) Each shot was slightly slower than the one before. The first shot went ~2380fps, and by the time I was done I was just under 2320fps. The last three shots went into a 0.72" group.

    So for anyone developing a load with BL-C(2) note the temperature sensitivity, a max load on a cold day could be well over max on a hot day (it was in the upper 80's when I decided on this max load).

    The FTX bullet is designed for the .35 Remington and I thought I would give it a go. I started at 49.0gr of BL-C(2) for just over 2300fps and stopped at 52.0gr. There were no signs of pressure and the velocity was ~2450fps. (I would work this load up again if shooting at higher temperatures!) After An e-mail exchange I had with Hornady I decided not to go above 2300fps on this bullet - and even then I would be hesitant to take a shot under 50 yards as the FTX bullet is designed for 1600 to 2000 fps.

    At 2300fps at the muzzle, 2000fps would happen at around 100 yards, and 1600fps would come at ~270 yards. The factory claims 2225fps MV for LeveRevolution in .35 Rem but their load notes only go up to 2050fps. By comparison the 225gr SGK would fall to below 1900fps at ~240 yards, as stated in my previous post... but that's using the velocity numbers when temps are in the 80's.

    Anyway I loaded up 3 more with 49.0gr of BL-C(2), just above or just below 2300fps and got a 1.25" group.

    My buddy is going to try the Nosler bullets (225gr Accubond and Partition). He showed me one today, and the Accubond is one loooooong bullet, so I tend to believe the claim of a BC of .421. Nosler's web site says it's good down to 1800fps. If so... and if the 1:14" twist can keep it stable... it might be good out to 270 yards or so, depending on the MV he can get out of it. They claim a BC of .430 for the partition... no boat tail or lead tip... I don't know if I can believe that.

    So my buddy got back from his hunting trip to Kansas and started working on his loads. His rifle is nearly identical to mine, but is a Model 16 (stainless). No need going into details, the results speak for themselves. He's using 200gr Interlock SP and IMR4895. 46.0gr = 2370fps, 48.0gr = 2490fps, 50gr = 2560fps

    Or anything else for that matter. That's my buddy's target BTW. Ballistic calculations say the 2560fps load is +/-2" out to 200 yards. Four clicks to the right and he's done.

    Just got done with a 225gr Nosler Accubond that gave me over 2500fps from the 26" barrel. Up to this point it was the only bullet I have tried.

    At any rate, looking to get some input.

    i tried 180s out of a 27.5 inch encore barrel with a vise break. best group i got was 4 inches @ 150 yds. i switched to 200 gr ftx bullets over varget and got a group with 4 shots touching and the 5th about 1 inch away @ 150 yds.

    no expeariance with the 225s yet.

    on by bolt 358 bolt gun i found a load with 180s over 10x that got me 1.2 inches @ 150 yds. i haven't had time to run them over a chrono yet but i might be able to tomorow

    I was fooling around with some 180gr XTPs today and had them coming out of that puppy at 2780fps! I had about a 2" group at 100 yards BUT, when I went to adjust my Barska scope, I noticed that there was a bunch of movement on the "stem". Not the knob, but the stem that comse out of the scope!

    Now that puppy is wearing a Luepold, 3x9x40MM and needs sighted in again! haha

    Loading the 200gr Hornady Interlocks, the SP ones, now. Hopefully they will be more accurate than the 225gr Nosler. Not that they aren't good bullets, they are the BEST, right next to their Ballistic Tip, but with the 1:14"m twist, I have to push them too hard to get them to stabilize. Going to a lighter bullet and seeing what happens.

    Hey Skip, welcome to the forum. What powder are you using? You've got 4" on me and my barrel, so 2500fps sounds about right for a 225gr bullet... right at max of you ask me.

    The stabilization question in the 1:14" twist is a great one to ask... Have you seen any issues? Does it stabilize at 2400fps? Below 2400?

    Getting the 225gr Nosler bullet up to 2500fps (either the Accubond or the Partition) will get everyone's attention even the elk hunters... with either of those bullets at 2500fps you retain a foot-ton of energy at 250 yards. Nosler's min recommended velocity is 1800fps... which occurs at 330-370 yards... depending on the temperature.

    What's even more outstanding is that with the long nosler bullets you're +/-3" out to 250 yards.

    You never knew you were building a 300 yard elk rifle did you? Or did you? :)

    No real news, just the results of what this coming deer season's load will be. I started with 46.0gr of IMR4895 and worked up in 0.5gr increments to 50.0gr. The last two loads at 49.5 and 50.0 resulted in increased force needed to lift the bolt. So I backed off to 49.0gr, decided this would be my load this season, loaded several rounds, and set about adjusting my scope to the new load.

    The bullet is the Hornady 200gr Interlock SP. It is a flat based spitzer bullet. My buddy had some impressive groups with this combination, so I was hoping for the best. Here are my last three shots of the day. I think that'll do. :)

    COL is ~2.373" (lead tips do vary a bit) and is not seated to the cannelure. Loads above 48.0gr are compressed. A little tapping on the case settled the powder and so there wasn't any crunching of powder.

    Velocity is an estimate, based on my buddy's loads with the same length barrel. I got to the range without my chronograph. :facepalm:

    ETA: Just to follow up here is the trajectory of this load @25degF and 800ft elevation.

    When developing loads I weigh each charge and use a powder dribbler to get it up to the "exact" amount I want. Unfortunately my powder funnel doesn't fit on a WSSM case so I improvise with a bit of paper. However, none of my loads are so compressed or using powders so slow that I would need to use a drop tube. Once the powder gets up into the neck where the bullet will be I just tap the case and it settles down.

    I modified my funnel, a Lee, to work. With the Russian 4895 that I have, I had to use IMR4064 data. In doing that, the case got REALLY full and I had to pour it into the funnel like I was using a drop tube.

    BLC-(2) has been the most accurate so far on paper for me. Not getting what you do yet but.....my setup is "hunterish" rather than "benchrestish". Not sure how you are doing your shooting. Are you just bagged up or in a sled?
