I got a new XD 9mm at the 1500 last weekend. Can't wait to go out and shoot it. It's the V10 edition. It looks sweet.:patriot:

Congrats on the new XD! I looked at the V10 at the 1500 and thought it was pretty cool looking. It would interesting to shoot both the ported and non-ported XD to see how much affects the muzzle flip. Let us know it goes at the range!

I was thinking the same thing. You could not use that without giving away your position. :twocents:

Unless the firearm has a flash suppression device, your theory can be applied to a lot of guns. The ports on the barrel are utilizing the gases to reduce muzzle flip, but without the ports, the gases still have to escape so a muzzle flash will be created, which gives away your position.

    It MAY cause it.

However, the length of the blast isn't long enough to screw up the vision completely. And if you're in a SD scenario, you're likely to not notice it all.

Plus, many decent SD cartridges are manufactured with low-flash powders.

And even without the barrel & slide porting, you'll get a flash out of the muzzle anyhow.
