    Well, maybe if the squirrels weighed 1000 pounds.


    The R1 is supposed to have half the recoil of a bolt action in the same caliber. So the 338 is supposed to recoil about like a 308. That's about right. I put 20 rounds through it in a thin shirt, no pain, no bruising. Could have shot another 100.

    Couldn't tell about accuracy, I was shooting off the hood of my truck in 30mph cold wind. Still it shot around 2 inches at 100 yards. Handles like a Ferrari. Very high quality feel to it.

    I like this rifle very much, though perhaps not for squirrels.

    Them squirrels are awful tough. You might want to consider a little larger caliber just to be on the safe side. Nothing worse than tracking a wounded squirrel!

    The trick to squirrel hunting with a 338 is to.....just shoot the tree trunk and the shock knocks the little suckers out by the pile!:D
