Shot my own Mosin at 200yrds down at Crosley. Wind was Murder. Probably close to a ful value wind, most of the time it was in my face which made it difficult to focus on the front sight. But the wind was also shifting around I think it was the remnants of tropical storm Lee, although it did not rain. JUst overcast cool and windy! Shoulder dosen't hurt, tried out my CMP shooting coat finally. Shoulder pad worked well, and the elbow pads helped steady the gun. First few shots were high but then settled down and got a few in the black, will post pix soon.

Next time remember to put skateboard tape on the butt plate to keep it from slipping. You can exfoliate while you tenderize. The scab only lasts a couple days, trust me.

Mine was pretty tender after the day at the range on Sat. Shooting the mosin, combined with my friends M4 chambered in 7.62. It was a big relief when we pulled out the .22 to sight in the scope.

    Ghostv1,

What model of Mosin are you using?

My Mosins do not bother me at all, and I have most models.

Actually, out of all of my rifles only one (1) gives me grief: my Persian Mauser. I have several different 8mm Mausers and it is only the Persian that makes my cheek sore.

I think mine is caused by a short butt on the rifle that kicks my face more than the others.

I am glad you are having fun!

    Regards,

    Doug

Yeah the sore shoulder thing has to be some kind of a troll. I haven't had the chance to put more than 50-60ish rounds down range with my m44 at one time, but I don't see how if you're holding the thing properly it could hurt.

Honestly at this point I enjoy shooting it way more than the AR or even the .22.

    Have fun with your Mosins!

Shooting 12 gauge slugs made the Mosin seem tame.

    Amen!

If you want to take the edge off your Mosin try a $15 Shooterpads slip on jel pad. My kids (both 90-100 pounds) didn't care for the M38 without it, now they want their own Mosins.

You can also get low recoil ammo for them that will reduce recoil significantly, it's ball ammo though so you lose both range and accuracy.

If you live someplace where you can shoot after dark the muzzle blast on the 38 or 44 carbines is pretty impressive, my kids love it :).
