Nagant Revolver Question

here in a couple days i will be giving my Mosin Nagant a Partner with buying him a Nagant Revolver as a buddy lol what i was wondering is, how do i remove all of the cosmoline? i've never had to do it before with a handgun(or rifle really) any tips and tricks or opinions are appreciated, thanks guys
