See if this helps, a video on the history of California Z guns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94vs56NAtU4

Frontline did a story back in the 1990's (IIRC) called "Ring of Fire" and it profiled the manufacturers just outside L.A. County limits...It seemed a couple of employees were Johnny Cash "One Piece at a Timing" lunch box guns and selling them to gang members....

Best quote....

The.380 ACP pistol can be made in nearly the same small size as the small-caliber guns with little or no loss in ammunition capacity, and is sold for only a few dollars more. But the resemblance ends there. The.380 ACP pistol is much more powerful than small-caliber guns. By one standard ballistics measurement, Relative Stopping Power, .380 ACP ammunition has at least twice the wounding potential of the traditional Saturday Night Special calibers. The.380 ACP is considered by experts to be the most powerful ammunition compatible with the inexpensive operating mechanism found in most Ring of Fire handguns.

Obviously something of somewhat questionable quality. Noting the wear on it, it appears to be carried in a pocket sans holster. An unintended discharge just waiting to happen. Hopefully, whilst "jocked" in some felon gang bangers baggy "hood" pants.

Could we take a page from an Israeli playbook and seed the neighborhood with cheap 9mms with .32 caliber barrels and/or 1 lb tigger pulls?

That would make a lot of sense of muddying up the cosmetic differences

Well, if you have info, like a clearer pic, please let me know.
Look at the opening still photo that comes up on the video screen before hitting play (or captured on post #16), the back of the frame under the slide (where the bryco serial number is stamped) is tapered up toward the slide. On the slide itself, there is a red plastic insert in the front sight, and the screw hole to hold the missing rear sight is visible. All of these correspond to the Jennings, as shown in the pictures posted by printcraft.

Not trying to be argumentative, although it is probably coming across as so. Just pointing out the little differences, like the royale with cheese.
