Ok, this will be my first time reloading the 22-250, and I need some advice.
I have a Stevens 200 with 22" 1/12" twist barrel. I'm a little short on cash right now, so if I have to choose one powder to use, which one? Should I start with H380, since it was made for the 22-250? I'm leaning toward IMR 4064, 4895, or maybe Varget...

I have 50gr and 55gr v-max for projectiles now, but am wanting to try out a few others soon.

Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.

    Thanks...

Kind of like Ford vs Chevy..

Each to his own. I have several Rem. 700's in 22-250. Mine like 52-55gr. Sierra and Hornady bullets. I like BL-C(2) for my most accurate loads in them..Bill.

I like 55gr V-max over Varget in my Ruger 77 rifle 1 in 12 twist also. Started loading for it back in 1990? using 4064, but quit a few years back when I ran out.

I guess I like Varget's versatility for other calibers...

I'm going to go with H4895. It's a more versatile powder for multiple caliber reloading, and it's super accurate in the 22-250. 50gn or 55gn V-max or Blitzkings will do just about anything, and they're 'one-hole wonders' out of a good barrel.

Andrew is spot-on with his recommendation of H4895. Any reloader putting rounds together for more than 1 or 2 rifles really should have a pound of this on the shelf at all times. :)

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
    I have that rifle.

I tried the 38.0 gr of H380 behind a 52gr bullet and got excellent performance from it (h380 was named for that load). I've used H380, 4895, and Varget for this round and H380 is by far my preference, with 4895 following close. Varget works but doesn't meter very well and takes a while to fill the case with frequent bridging.

You might be tempted to go with heavier bullets with the .22-250, but really this is a round that likes the lighter bullets.

I like the fact that Varget CAN be used for almost every rifle I load (except the .50bmg :) ) but it's only really optimal for a smaller subset. I love it for .308.

Its almost hard to find a combo that doesn't shoot well in 22-250.

I've had good luck with H380 and Varget. H380 will work better out of a powder meter, but these days I use an RCBS chargemaster so Varget doesn't give me any problems.
