need help identifing romania 22 cal

Hello,

my dad bought this a couple years ago as a coon hunting rifle. when he bought it the guy said it was a Russian training rifle in 22 form.

on the gun by the bolt read the numbers like listed:

1979
s#

about 4 inches from the muzzle say s this

M1969 22 cal. Romania

C.I.A ST A1BVT

why does it say cia and what is it?

C.I.A is Century International Arms, the importer.

What you appear to have is a fun little .22 with a neat leaf rear sight.

I had one of these for a while, picked it up for >$100 at an auction, and it was a fun and accurate shooter. I really liked the three leaf rear sight.

I've got one of those too. It is a pretty cool rifle. Pretty accurate too.

I have had several over the years, they are nice little rifles, but the magazines are hard to find.
