I'm hoping someone can help me with a gun value, as I'm not too knowledgeable with this. My father in law has a Marlin Model 1895 in .45-70. It had to have been manufactured before 1990, as it was gifted to him then from a relative. It is in average condition with a low round count. I can provide serial # if that is needed. I believe it was the base model 1895 that was manufactured between 1972 and 1984. I told him the value was a few hundred bucks at best, as I see the new ones can be had between $500-600. What does INGO say? Thanks!

Currently there are 42 used marlin 1895's in .45-70 for sale on gunbroker, should help give you an idea of value. Of course yours being 30+ years old instead of 5 years old makes a difference.

I remember seeing a table of manufacture years based on marlin serial numbers (I was looking for a 1894c made in 1994). I'll try to dig that back up and post it here.

For what it is worth. There is a Marlin owners web site and I am quite confident that someone on the site could give you a very good idea. The folks there live , eat and breath Marlins and they are honest. I know that personally.

I sold one to a dealer at a gun show this spring for $500 and you know he as going to mark it up. Had three dealers offere that. A pre Remington which that is should bring that amount easy if in good shape.
