I am looking to add another 45 acp to my collection just looking for opinions. I have been looking at a glock 21 gen 3. I do not want a 1911 I already have one that has some issues. I want something that will shoot reloaded ammo reliably. Something that can handle thousands of rounds before it breaks.

    Steel or Poly framed?

I have an EAA Witness in 45 ACP that has run completely flawless. I would also suggest looking into the SAR K2. I've heard nothing but great things.

If you're thinking of a plastic framed pistol, I would suggest Kahr (for compact) or Glock (because they always work).

New or used? I have a S&W 4506-1 that will eat anything and besides the occasional spring change out should out live me.

I have a new Glock 41 and it's pretty sweet.
If you look around, they can be had for about $599 new.

The M&P 45 is a possibility. Never shot a full sized one, but I did shoot the C-model.
I would not recommend the C-model. Nice, but hard felt recoil.
Glock 30S was kinda brutal like that too.

The Glock 21 is a definite favorite .45acp handgun in my book. I owned the Gen4 and have nothing but good memories with it. I sold it to fund another project, but I see myself buying another in the future.

I have a Sig P220 and an HK45, they are both great pistols, and I have never had a problem with either one of them being picky on ammo.
Good luck on your quest and let us know what you end up with.

Second the M&P45c. Shot mine at the range just yesterday and it has been uber reliable. It gobbled up every round like candy and begged for more like a youngster on a sugar buzz.

It handles good and I don't have any issues with excessive felt recoil. I enjoy shooting it. YMMV
