That was a funny speech. I enjoyed it. I use CFLs almost exclusively because of the long term money savings. I also hate this law. Our government has no place telling anyone which light bulb they should use.
There are still places where a suitable replacement to incandescent bulbs isn't available.
Government mandate aside, CFL's are toxic and it's never made sense to me how these are supposedly a "green" solution to lighting?
At best I think in the long run, that CFL's are not here to stay and are more or less an interim "solution".
LED lighting from what I see has much LESS toxicity, is coming online and prices are dropping steadily.
I bought my first LED bulb some months ago to test and I do like them much better than the CFL's I've VOLUNTARILY used for many years.
It even fits into a lamp I use often that a CFL bulb's base was too big to fit.
I'm for encouraging the VOLUNTARY change (i.e. let FREE market forces work) to more efficient non-toxic lighting, but AGAINST any kind of mandate.
