Just built an ar in 6.5 creedmoor it has 22 inch aero precision premium heavy barrel. I have a few hundred hornady 120 and 140 amax, I have some h4350 and varget to get started. Just wondering if anyone has a good recipe already worked out.
Thanks for your time.
I reloaded 100 rounds in a single stage press using 42 grains of H4350, 140gr Amax, GM210M primers at 2.805 for a friend of mine. He said they were some of the best rounds he had fired through his gun. 2718 FPS from a 22" barrel.
If I recall correctly, that was a pretty standard load for the Creedmoor that a lot of reloaders were happy with.
The original boxes of 6.5 Creedmoor 140s were 41.5gr H4350 over a 140 Amax @ 2.81" COAL.
With that generic recipe but replacing the Amax with a HPBT, it has been a solid sub-MOA load in two Creedmoors that I have owned...just as accurate and actually more consistent than factory ammo which is pretty accurate in my experience.
For a gas gun, you might consider 123s (the 120s you have will work) and Varget. I have a 18" bolt gun and 40.7gr Varget under a 123 Amax gets me 2810fps. A 140gr HPBT over 42.5gr H4350 gets me 2640fps from the same 18" barrel.
In bolt guns most seem to find a node around 41.5 gr and another around 42.5 gr of H4350 with the 140-143 gr bullets. I've been shooting the 142 SMK over 42.6 gr H4350. Some guys have reported in gas guns having better luck with Varget but I have no personal experience. I'm sending the 142 SMK with the 42.6 gr H4350 at 2825 fps from a 26" barrel.
I am really hoping the h4350 works good in the gas gun as it is a lot easier to find around my area . The varget is hard to come by , and that is what I mainly use in my 308 loads.
That's great to hear going to take it out this weekend and zero the gun and start testing a few loads I will report back to let everyone know how it works out. Thanks again for the input. I also bought some winchester 140 hpbt match at the lgs to see how the factory ammo does out of the rifle, and for more brass.
