Until I purchase a handgun, I've been renting at the local ranges. They seem to have a policy that you have to use their ammo. Does this typically apply to all shooters or just rental guns?

    Thanks

Different ranges seem to have different policies. I think if you rent one of their guns most of the time you have to use their ammo. if you bring in your own gun you should be able to use your own ammo

Thanks. I figured it was to protect their guns, but I didn't want to look like I was trying to sneak ammo in once I no longer need rentals.

The range rules depend on the range.
Some of the ranges have had people put tracer rounds and penetrator rounds through their range, causing thousands of dollars of damage.

Of course, now I can't find the threads.
But I seem to remember 2 different ranges having problems.

Best thing to do is just ask that range. Honestly.
    This.

Because each range anger may be different and you will want them to be around for you so no since in not knowing the rules.
Examples. Some require frangible ammo, no hollow points, no lead, caliber restriction...

Just find out what the requirements are and all will be good. Most likely reason for rentals and their ammo is liability and protection of the gun. Anybody can work up some hot loads and bust their gun, right?

and if they do require their ammo with your gun or refuse to let me keep my brass then I find another place to go.
