This is simply unbelievable. Its un-democratic. Its un-American. Its exactly what I expect from the Obama administration.

The National Mediation Board, which oversees labor relations in the air and rail industry, this month moved to overturn 75 years of labor policy.

The board plans to stack the deck for organized labor in union elections. Under a proposed rule, unions would no longer have to get the approval of a majority of airline workers to achieve certification. Not even close. Instead, a union could win just by getting a majority of the employees who vote. Thus, if only 1,000 of 10,000 flight attendants vote in a union election, and 501 vote for certification, the other 9,499 become unionized.

This radical break with precedent is the handiwork of President Obama's appointees to the three-member board: Harry Hoglander, once president of a pilots union, and Linda Puchala, former president of the Association of Flight Attendants.

Obama owes the unions some serious payback and he is going to deliver it.

We've debated the merits of unions several times on INGO, but I will summarize my feelings by simply stating that unions had a place and time in this country, but have now become nothing more than thugs pushing personal agendas and very un-American business practices. Seriously, what about unions belongs in a free market economy?

I am not a part of a union, but when I read this, I don't see the big deal here.

Basically, if you are not involved, then you obviously don't care what happens. Therefore, the majority who do care enough to vote, will get their voice heard..

They won't be satisfied until they control or destroy every industry in the country.

The dollar is going to be poisoned and there is nothing that any republican, independent, or conservative dem can do about it.

The big deal is that all union members pay dues to the headquarters whether their interests are considered or not. Aren't the European socialist countries big on unions? Just look at how poorly they seem to function. The bammer is quickly leading this country right down the very same road. He knows exactly what all of this deficit spending is doing to this country. You have to completely tear something down before you can rebuild in the fashion that he and his minions want it to be which is vastly different than what the majoritiy of Americans want it to be. Just my two cents.

In the next decade, unions will once again play an important role. We can already see employers returning to some very unsavory employment practices.

That being said, in major cities unions have always been heavily influenced by various crime syndicates. It's a legal form of racketeering for them. It was brought about by unmitigated greed by the "captains of industry" and their disregard for the workers of this country.

It's where poor morals lead us.

Like what? reduced working hours, cuts in pay, layoffs, lack of benefits???
The majority of companies that want to be successful provide good benefits with pride. They are however forced to cut back on everything in the attempt to survive this terrible market. I certainly don't blame the companies for this. There are other factors playing into this game, and the biggest one being the government.

Sounds just like any other election in America. Pretty much exactly how every elected official in the country is elected. Hardly a stacked deck in favor of ANY ONE.

Every thing about unions belongs in a FREE SOCIETY. There's nothing about a free market ECONOMY that is relevant to the USA economy or the world economy. It's nothing but propaganda. It doesn't exist.
