    Web-based gun permit application available
County and city residents can apply for permits online
    By MIKE FLETCHER
    Tribune staff writer
[red]Residents of Howard County will join residents in Miami and Wells counties[/red] in being able to apply for an Indiana firearms permit from the comfort of their home computer or any Internet connected computer.
This is the beginning of the statewide rollout of the Web-based computer application system. The state police will continue bringing on other counties in the coming months.
The Indiana State Police, in partnership with the Indiana Sheriff’s Association and the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, approved the development of the electronic application process.
The new application was developed by Holt, Sheets & Associates, the ISP contractor for the Central Repository.
Howard County residents can begin applying online instead of going to the sheriff department.
Sheriff Marty Talbert said the new application process will decrease the time it takes to issue a permit and improve efficiency at both the local and state level all without compromising security protocols in place to ensure an applicant meets the legal standards to be issued a handgun license in Indiana.
