There will be an orienteering event in Hamilton County next weekend (15 July) at Cool Creek Park: https://www.indyo.org/schedule/2023-events/summer-in-the-city-cool-creek-park-july-16-2023

Sounds like a very "welcoming to new people" event.

For anyone who is like, "What's orienteering?" It is basically finding your way through the countryside with a map. As you walk around, there are "control points" you visit to prove you were there. Then you (hopefully) make your way back to the starting line and you're done.

AAR on this event: an outstanding experience!

Mini Miguel and I completed the "intermediate/advanced" course and had a great deal of fun in the process. Learned some things, too. I felt confident going into the event, but was certainly challenged to think and rethink at times...just because you read some books/articles and watched some YouTube videos, doesn't make you an expert, for sure!

I would strongly encourage anyone who enjoys the outdoors to do an event like this at some point, regardless of the organization you do it with.
