Garden ring around the house is planted with common, but strong, showy, dependable perenials 20 yrs old. Mostly over crowded when we moved here.

I've divided up and filled in holes with what's here, but I want to have some "feature plants" that are not as commonly used.

Ours is a typical landscaper bid type result from a company planting fifty or so houses in this subdivision area. Looks fine all summer.
But the plantings and design have no soul!

I have a perfect spot for some Helebores and I want one of those enormous five foot wide hosta varieties in one corner, for instance.

That's the reason I wanted to stop by all the mom and pop nurseries first. Those places are more likely to have some unusual or oddball beauties lurking in their greenhouses.

Bought three plants, but daughter got a lot more.
    Hers are houseplants, mostly.

It felt great to get out and about for my own reasons and not be on a mission for another purpose, but not my own pleasure and pace.

It was chilly at first, but not bad.

If you ever make it down to the southside, you really should stop in this place. https://soulesgarden.com/

Beautiful huge hostas, daylilies and all kinds of specimen plants.
