I have noticed over the past 7-10 days, the owls in my area are very active and vocal, even during mid-day. Can anybody shed some light on why they are currently more active than normal? Thanks.

At this point, I believe that they are teaching their young to fly. Last year, at this time, I heard what I thought was the distress call of a young deer. Thinking a coyote was attacking it, I grabbed a weapon and headed into the woods. As soon as I got to where the sound was coming from, it stopped. I stood perfectly still for close to five minutes, watching for movement, and listening for sound. Suddenly a HUGE owl flew by at eye level, and the six to eight inch baby above my head let out a screech that again sounded just like a fawn in distress. I jumped, and then laughed.
