Plainfield Teen Injured in Hunting Incident (Morgan County)

Brooklyn, IN- Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an apparent accidental shooting that took place yesterday evening near the town of Brooklyn in Morgan County.

At approximately 8:04 p.m. last night, Indiana Conservation Officers were dispatched to Saint Francis Hospital in Mooresville after a person was admitted with an apparent gunshot wound to the leg suffered in a hunting accident.

Initial investigation revealed that Ty Conly, 16, of Plainfield, IN, was squirrel hunting with his cousin Dale Cochran, 13, of Mooresville on private property when Cochran’s firearm accidently discharged striking Conly in the right ankle.

The teens were able to call a family member for help, who in turn transported the victim to the hospital. Conly was listed in good condition and was then transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.

With multiple hunting seasons fast approaching, Indiana Conservation Officers urge the hunting public to keep firearm safety a primary focus. Indiana Hunter Education Classes are available free of cost across the state and can be located by visiting Indiana Hunter Education Association | Indiana Hunter Education Association.

At least 25 years ago, a buddy and I took my 13-14 year old cousin and his friend squirrel hunting. My cousin's friend ended up accidentally shooting him in the butt with a .22LR. The bullet traveled through his wallet and into his left buttock, then out his "crack" and into his right buttock. The bullet then traveled down his right leg to at least mid thigh. Three bullet holes plus another to surgically remove the bullet.
