The reason for the selected range of firearms is that's the sample group i took measurements off of ;-)

I dont own many of them, and this isn't necessarily a real world question so i can own the lightest recoiling pistol. it was just to see what opinions were.

Recoil - heavier guns have less felt recoil. Guns that have barrels closer to the hand or that you can get a higher grip have less muzzle rise. in your list that would be something like a CZ75

Accuracy - completely subjective and dependent on the shooter. All of those guns should be mechanically accurate.

Oh and for the record 9mm 1911s are the best.

I have a Glock 17. It's a ***** cat and with a small TLR 3 weapon light mounted there is no recoil. Like a cap gun.

Cousin has a 92FS. Not my cup of tea although it is smooth like butter and handles nice.

I'd agree with that, as long as you get one with a decent trigger and don't mind the travel. I have one, I can mock it. Seems like some have a great (albeit long) trigger, some it's more like a metal plate being dragged down a gravel road (though it can be fixed). I don't know if that fits the OP's original criteria but I can't really figure out the criteria other than full size guns.

The one my step son bought, which was the first I had ever fired, was as you described. The one I purchased in September, the gray handled Talo Edition, does not have the gritty pull, albeit it is still quite a long pull. It took several weekends and about 600 rounds to get used to it.

My order of accuracy and general pleasantness of shooting:

CZ 75 (Makes me look like I am a really good shot. I am not generally a really good shot. I could shoot this all day.)

S&W M&P .45 (the trigger is not original, I hated it before the trigger switch and felt like the recoil made my hand hurt after a magazine) Sorry, never shot the 9mm version, but the .45 is quite nice with the switched trigger (to Apex trigger). I know you are ignoring trigger, but I think the trigger affects grip. Or maybe it only does if you have small hands?)

Springfield XDS .45 (can't believe someone said the 9mm version is harsh, I consider myself to be very recoil sensitive and generally refuse to shoot .45, other than these two .45's on this list, which I find pleasant and easy to shoot. I was afraid to even shoot it because it's so small and it's a .45, but it's actually nice. The only thing I dislike is that the grip is too knobby. I never tried the 9mm version.)

Glock 26 Gen 4
(Love Glocks, kills me to put this so low, but sadly I cannot reach the trigger as well while maintaining a good grip, so with the readjusting it's not "smooth.")

Glock 19 Gen 3 (Same as 26, just the Gen 3 kicks a little more)

Shield 9mm (Shoots soft but I'm really inaccurate with this so follow up shots are slow, I haven't been able to figure out why, the only other gun I've shot this badly was an original version LC9.)

Beretta 92 , it's been ages since I have shot one, so I think I was actually more accurate with this than the Shield, but I cannot find a good place to put my fingers and thumbs when shooting it. It just feels really weird and I hate holding it. Also makes my hand sore. Probably because of the lack of a place to put my fingers and thumbs. I'm left handed and female. It feels nice, racks smoothly (not as nice as the CZ), but it just couldn't be a worse fit.

I have a unfired P226, looked at a G17 but decided against it, looked at the PPQ M2 which is not a choice but I like them. Next up for me is the VP9. I have read good things about that one. I want to learn more.

So for me:

1911 in 9mm
M&P FS 9mm

I think this may be the first time I have quoted me and it's a bit of a thread drift at that.:)

However, today I had the chance to compare the PPQ to the VP9 and decided that I definitely preferred the PPQ. Though I really need to shoot one to make sure I like it.

Where did you try the VP9? I've been looking at my first purchase and at this point I think it's going to be a Sig P320, but want to try the VP9 and the PPQ.
Welcome to INGO!

I didn't shoot one, but just checked one out at Gander Mountain. I really haven't given the P320 even much more than a glance. I guess since I own a P226 that I have never fired, I don't see me switching to another Sig. I will at least check one out before I buy something, but the PPQ is looking like the winner right now.

Here's why i asked. I was in the middle of prepping this video and i wanted to verify my perceptions, and thoughts about popular opinion.

Of those I've shot:

1. 1911
2. XD
3. M&P
4. 92
5. G17
6. G19

Most wide/thick grips feel better to me with the exception of the Berretta 92.

that was my second thought with that thing. first thought "wow, that's pretty cool" then after barely getting "cool" out i thought "i bet that hurts like a mother***** to shoot". i do not envy you.
